Is a 3-day case management course worth it?

I donot think that it is worth it to spend that much money. I have been in case management for almost two years. I went to an insurance company after being at the bedside for 10 years. I did not have any experience as a case manager. After working a year as a case manager I was eliglible to sit for the case manager certification exam. I took the test and passed. So my advice is to search for jobs in the insurance industry. The requirements for my job were to have five years of varied experience. I work from home now so I am very grateful for the oppurtunity that was provided to me.

I would agree that most organized nurses can be successful in case management...and don't require an expensive seminar to get started.

The dicier question is "will you like it"?

I have seen this 3-day case management course in nurse.com events guide myself. I am curious and have been asking questions about the adequacy of this program. Does it meet all the requirements of a case manager that one needs out there in a challenging market? Can you readily get employment with the certificate you earn from this 3-day course? rn with class did not really clarify this issue. Are you saying it is not penny wise to attend this 3-day course as opposed to long tenure ones like 9-12 units in colleges costing 6-7 thousands dollars or you are just saying the whole exercise is not worth it? Are you saying insurance companies are ready to accept and self train nurses who are interested in case management? Are you saying one should go ahead and take this three day course? And like funnygirl is asking, please can you furnish us with the name of the insurance company or a similar one, because I am dead serious about changing career immediately to Case Management. I would like it if rn with class could give more information regarding this very important issue before I waste hard-to-get money attending this course. There is one coming up very soon and I am thinking about registering for it. Thank you rn with class or anyone else out there who could provide much needed info regarding this course. Does anyone recommend a particular institution that offers this course with competitive and marketable certificates? What good schools or institutions are out there? I live in the Inland Empire. UC Riverside and UC SD offer this course for about $3500 to $4500. Many other universities and institutions offer it from 6 weeks to a full year. Many are online and or self paced. They offered 9-12 units and cost between $6000-$12000. Some can be financed with financial aid. Just which ones are recommendable and is worth pursuing for nurses wishing to change portfolios? This requests are open? Thanks once again.

i agree. You can study the study guides and buy the CDs with 1200 questions and learn a lot. I also did online CM courses that helped. But they were not that e pensive.
