Suggestions for topics for student in-service presentation?

Specialties Cardiac

Hi, I'm a BSN student tasked with a group in-service presentation to the unit staff on a cardiac stepdown unit. We're struggling to find a topic to present on. Any ideas? As a cardiac nurse, what are some topics that you'd be interested in hearing about? What are some topics you have wondered about recently with pt. scenarios? We're hoping to find a topic that shouldn't be too difficult to find in the literature, as our deadline is approaching. Appreciate any thoughts/ideas!

Inotropes and their indications are always a nice "cardiac thing."

I'm not a cardiac stepdown nurse, but I figured I'd throw in my two cents. To me, commotio cordis and Brugada syndrome are two pretty interesting cardiac topics to consider. They should be pretty accessible in the literature.

Since most patients suffering from these problems will not live to see a cardiac stepdown unit, it would avoid the situation where you are trying to teach something where the audience already has expertise.

We actually do see Brugada's syndrome on our cardiac stepdown unit, maybe once a year or so. We had someone with Arrythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia last month.

Because it is sudden cardiac death month you might look into some of the rarer causes besides acute MI.

On a different note, takotsubo cardiomyopathy is rather interesting.

And there are some newer anticoagulants out that you could talk about.
