YORK vs. UOFT - Clinical Placement Hours

World Canada CA Programs

Published

Hey everyone, I have a quick question regarding clinical placement hours. Does anyone know how many hours are in the first year at York and UofT, as well as the total hours for both programs?

PS. This is in regards to the 2nd entry programs at both universities.

Thank you!

You could contact the schools and ask them. They would know for sure.

When I spoke to York, they told me total 1100 hours (seems quite low). The lady at UofT said she isn't sure lol. That's why I thought of posting here so that a current student or graduate of the program could give me a more concrete answer.

Thanks!

Every school would be about the same I would imagine. They all have to meet the same standards. There may be a slight difference but not much of one.

Appreciate your help, Lori!

I dont know why, but 1100 hours seems relatively low...maybe thats how all accelerated programs are

I think that's about standard. All programs have to give you the required amount of clinical hours, accelerated or not. 1100 hours is about 27 weeks of full time work

1100 is pretty standard for the RN programs out here in BC. In vancouver I think they are all around that

I am currently at U of T completing the first year of their accelerated program and while I'm unaware of total number of hours spent in clinical over the next two years, I can give you a breakdown of first year. During first semester, students are required to complete a total of 72 hours per rotation: maternity and geriatrics (Thursdays and Fridays). In second semester, students spend 7 weeks in each of the following areas: acute care, pediatrics, and mental health. Clinical takes place on Thursdays and Fridays and for students completing their clinical in acute care or pediatrics, they are required to go in on Wednesdays as well for a couple of hours. I hope that you find this information!!!
