Working while in nursing school

I am in the BScN program. I need to work during the school year. I am a lifeguard/swim instructor and where I work, they don't schedule me a lot. I was wondering if that would be okay? If I believe, I get around 10 hours of work each week. Should I contact my program coordinator in the summer to ask which dates to tell my boss that I cannot work because of school and clinical?

You should be fine working 10 hours per week, but don't bank on getting any dates from the school until you start.

Okay thanks, I'll just tell them I can work weekend and day off. Hoping it will all work out.

I agree that you should be fine working 10 hours a week while in school - I had two jobs all throughout nursing school and it actually really helped me with time management! As soon as you get your schedule, I would then forward it to your boss and maybe also add in the shifts you would prefer to work. That's what worked the best for me!
