Second-Entry Nursing Programs - 2014 Hopeful

World Canada CA Programs

Published

Hi Everyone!

I'm starting this topic for those who are applying to 2nd-entry programs, to start in 2014.

A bit about myself:

I'll be applying to University of Ottawa and University of Toronto.

Graduated with a Social Science degree from Ottawa U w/ 7.2 CGPA (aka 3.33 on 4.0 scale, or a B+)

A lot of community involvement in health promotion, youth counseling programs, women's health research..

Currently taking the prerequisites...

I'm kind of nervous about the applications because I know how competitive these programs are... Any advice from current 2-year BScN students would be great!

Let's get this thread going

Congrats all! Those of you who received acceptances from Trent, did you get them by email or through the myTrent portal?

Thanks! I got my acceptance by email first. The myTrent portal was updated few hours later and OUAC was updated late morning today.

Hey, Congrats! :) do you mind sharing what your GPA was?

Thank you! My average before the winter term was 79.2 (last 20), but after the winter term, it was now 80.7. I believe that my winter grades helped me get the offer.

I received an alternate offer from Trent last week (honours science) but haven't heard about nursing yet. Any ideas about the chances of getting into nursing after received an alternate offer?

I think the best bet is to call them up and talk to them. Let them know that you really want to attend Trent and if there are any alternatives.

Has anyone contacted UofT to see how much longer we should wait until we get an answer regarding admission?

UoT will be letting everyone know by June 30th. It is stated in their email that was sent out upon receiving your application. I contacted the coordinator to confirm.

Does anyone know if UofT is currently full or will they be sending out more acceptance offers soon?

Do you think Trent, UofT, Humber look at cumulative AVG's? I wonder if they still consider it in the overall assessment.

Just got an alternate offer from Trent too. It doesn't make sense as it's for a Honours Science and I already have a Honours Science degree with a 82% in last 10 FCE.

i received offers from Trent and UBC and I might be declining Trent in the next week, so there will be a spot opening up : )

yah it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me either. Not sure why I would do another of science courses when I already have my BSc.. I'm surprised that the alternate offers would not be for the 4 year programs?

My cumulative avg. Is not that great. But I thought that Trent only looks at last two years GPA?

Anyone know whether Trent considers cumulative GPA?

Wait, so you had an 82 average in the last 10 FCE and didn't get accepted? I emailed them last week and they said they currently accepted people with 80 and above? :o

Yes, it seems like ppl with lower avg's are getting in. I will have to follow up with Trent. It's either a mistake or they may be considering cGPA.

Hey Everyone,

I just called Western and I found out that they will update Student Center tomorrow. Makes me super nervous and anxious. Best of luck to everyone waiting to hear. Hopefully it'll be good news for everyone!

Has anyone heard any news from UofT? Why is it taking them so long to make a decision!?
