Ottawa U pembroke or Georgian College ?

Hi Everybody,

U of Ottawa at Pembroke Algonquin College and Georgian College ( Collaborative York U ) accepted me the Nursing Bscn program. I am a high school graduate and don't have good confidence in this hard program. Could you so kind to advise me on :

1. Is Nursing Bscn is difficult to a student like me with average grade 75% - 80% ?

2. Is the course very hard ?

3. Better Pembroke Algonquin College or Georgian College ?

4. Also applied RPN George Brown and waiting for the result. Is it good go to George

Brown if accepted instead of Bscn ?

If you're willing to put in the hard work needed I'd say go for it. I am curious what people have to say regarding rpn vs bscN. From my point of view, I thought choosing the bscN route was a no brainer. I, as well, am going into the BScN this September but at st. Lawrence college Cornwall. I guess do your research and see in what area you'd like to do your placements. Algonquin rated high in term of first timers passing the nclex ;)

I will attend the uOttawa BScN program this September too, but the stream with Algonquin (Woodroffe campus).

Hey! Congrats on getting accepted. Nursing is super competitive so you should be proud of yourself :)

I think if you put the work in - it's completely doable. I have a university degree and I can honestly say it can be challenging at points but as the 4 years go on you figure out the best ways to succeed, ie. How much time you need to devote to things, study habits etc.

I think you should def go for RN. Not that theres anything wrong with RPN but RNs are able to do more things and you do have more career opportunities! I know this because I have friends that are RPNs and RNs. Also the pay difference between them is a big factor - as an RN you will receive more pay increases the longer you work whereas, RPNs have a salary cap. Just something to consider.

Do you mind me asking what your average was? Im waiting to hear back from Pembroke :)

I am a degree holder too, and just finished my first degree at McMaster. With cGPA 3.9/4.0 and high school high 80s. I got in BScN uOttawa-Algonquin Woodroffe campus in January and accepted it.

Now I tend to accept the Bscn offer of Georgian/York. I do some research and found the graduation rate is higher that U Ottawa about 82%.

I received the offer of U of Ottawa Pembroke by the end of March. At that time I only have Mid-eighty for Math 3M, Bio 3U mid-seventy, English 4U high-eighty, and Chem 4U high-sixty. The mid term grades was not available for Bio 4U, Math 4U and I repeat Chem 4U and got low eighty by Mid Apr. I trust your grades should be better than and will hear from you the acceptance of admission soon.

You're welcome! This is probably a bias opinion, but I know the Georgian/York collab is an awesome school! My home town is close to Georgian in barrie and its a really nice campus. I have a ton of friends that went there and even worked there and they loved it! Overall, I've heard York is awesome too.

In terms of the city and campus I think that program would be better than Pembroke. I don't know much about Pembroke but its a smaller town outside of Ottawa and I would imagine they have a smaller campus as well. Im still interested in attending their because my boyfriend wants to move to Ottawa so at least we would be closer. My high school marks were all good except for my math :( so i don't meet the requirements for Georgians program.

hi, if you choose ottawa U/Pembroke. You should know that campus and classes are small and you get more individual help if needed. If your grades are in the 70's you can still apply to be a nurse here, since acceptance for overall average is 70. The website shows still open for RPN and Bscn nursing, so you can still apply there for the fall. It is in the Ottawa Valley about 4 hours from Toronto, but worth the drive if it means you do not get to start your nursing career.
