HELLO!

i'm sorry if this is already a thread, i looked but couldnt really find one

I was just accepted to Humber College for bachelor of nursing degree. It is my first choice, and i am just about to accept. I wanted to get some opinions of nurses who have graduated from, or are attending humber college.

What do you think of it? Is it really difficult? Did you get the placement you wanted?

Anything that might be helpful would be GREAT

thanks a bunch everyone!

hey!

Well just try and keep ahead of the game, because it kinda piles up around week 8-9 and then exams are tough!

And I don't really mean to to every single reading, of course that helps. But for first semester i don't think that ALL the readings are necessary for first semester, because i did maybe 40% of them and i have a 3.7 gpa haha.

You'll have two nursing courses, which take more work than you'd think, because sometimes their confusing and the exams are kinda tough

You'll have a bio course, which is easy if you just study your notes! All the information on the exams is from the notes they give you, which is ahmaaazing!

And the Psych course isn't so bad, for this class i do suggest you do the readings :)

And then there's an English course (you'll have a choice out of two english courses)

So i think the only confusing classses are the nursing ones. But again, if you keep on track, and if possible start your assignments early (there'll be a paper in one class and a group assignment in the other) then you won't be so stressed when midterms and exams come around.

Just try and finish your paper and group project early, to get it out of the way!

Hey Kate, Just have a question if you don't mind. Could you suggest any good electives to take for me? I know the next one isn't till 4th but I wanted to ask around ahead of time.

Thanks.

Well for first semester we just had the choice between two english courses, one was more about literature and one was focused on articles and essays about the eenvironment.

So thats really just your preference, theirs no difference in the amount of difficulty

And second semester they gave us a choice of about 5 courses

From those 2 were online, and i took one of those -Astronomy online

I wouldn't reccomend it, it had a prettty heavy workload and i'm not looking forward to the exam because it's hard to study something never really taught you

People in the other classes (they were mostly philosophy courses, i dont remember all the names) enjoyed them and said they were easy!

As for any other electives, i have no idea, because they never really gave us any choices!

hope that helps hhaha

Specializes in NICU.

Thanks Kate!

I'm a fast reader, so keeping up with the readings doesn't scare me so much - it's keeping up with the assignments! I'm a touch of a procrastinator and that's going to be a definite "no go".

I'm glad you're enjoying the program, here's hoping I'll do just as well - I'd be ecstatic with a 3.7 :D

Hey Kate!

I'll be going to Humber for the BN next year and was wondering if you were able to find time to work part-time? I'm trying to figure out realistic hours to tell my work without running myself into the ground.

Thanks!

Hey, i personally didn't have a job, but i did have friends who managed to have jobs and keep good grades :) If you want to have a job you just gotta make sure to focus that much more haha. I suggest working like 2 days a week or something like that, any more might get you overwhelmed! :)

Hey everyone,

So reading through the past comments, there were pros and cons at Humber College for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.

Few questions:

1.) What courses do you take in first year and what is the passing mark?

2.) Are the professors good or bad? I got mixed reviews here. I even heard from someone that some professors got fired because of their performance or maybe they are just really unprofessional.

3.) The library - is there enough space or would I have a difficult time finding a spot (I find the George Brown really small.)

4.) The campus- do you like it?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hey! I'm not in my first year. I'll tell you my opinion so far

1) 1st semester= Nursing as a profession, Professional relationships, Psychology, and Anatomy/Physiology (I got exempted from english)

2nd semester= Lifespan development, Anatomy/Physiology, Nursing & Wellness, Nursing & Wellness clinical (I got exempted from an elective)

The passing grade for the courses is 60%. For clinical, it is pass/fail

2) For the most part, the professors are pretty good. I had one for my profession class last semester who was awful! I think you will find that everywhere though.

3) Library......sometimes it can be tough finding a spot. There is lots of room, but lots of students! During midterms and exams are especially busy.

4) I like the campus for the most part. My tip is buy a parking pass! If you pay daily, it is sooooooooooooo annoying.

Humber sucks guys! From the program coordinator to some awful teachers ! Lots of favoritism while giving out placements and moreover some students butter teachers up to get good marks in the assignments even if ure paper did not make sense . Honour students from humber have failed CNO 3 times ! Is that what you waste time for?

So from what you are saying, you had a bad experience with Humber.

Care to elaborate more on how the teachers are awful?

If nursing classes are small, I'm pretty sure favouritism will definitely happen no?

Did you pass/fail the CNO?

I passed! I was not an honour student ever but I struggled hard . Hated to see some teachers and the coordinator give best of marks to the loud speaking People and hated the fact that they got best of placement . Some of us never got what we wanted even once . Sucks anyways good luck!

Thank you. Your comment just turned me off about Humber. How big was the clinical classes? Where are your clinical placements?

Also, can you tell me how the nursing tests/midterms/exams questions are like? I know it wouldn't be like, "name the 4 tissue types." because that is high school-like.
