Nursing at Ryerson University

Hello everyone!

So I have a couple of questions to ask about the nursing program. I finished my diploma in ECE at Seneca College last year and am currently at York University taking some prereq's because I was hoping to get into the 2nd entry nursing at York. However I hear that it is highly competitive and that only a small percentage of people from York get into the York program which is making me consider other options as well...

If I apply for the Ryerson program (4 years) and have courses from a university as well as college will I get exempt from any of the courses in nursing? (for example anatomy and physic which I took in university and psychology which I took in college, stats, liberal arts, sociology, etc? which I took in both university and college)?

Another question that I have is if I do end up going to Ryerson university for the full time program which is Sept-March is it possible for me to take courses in the summer time too to fast track? Can I do my clinical's in the summer to also fast track?

I'm doing the collaborative program through Georgian/York and wasn't able to transfer an college credits because its a university program. You're university credits may be ok though. Can you apply for a prior learning assessment? I am taking summer courses but it won't shorten the length of the program, only reduce my course load in the fall. Placements are generally done within semester unless you fail and then you have the opportunity to pay out of pocket to complete the course/hours in order to return in the fall. Of course this is my experience/knowledge of my program. Hopefully someone from ryerson will be able to give you more school specific info.

College courses won't transfer to university.The university courses may as long as it wasn't too long ago.You would have to check with the school and see.You cannot fast track my taking summer courses and clinicals.

No Clinical in summer. I recommend you doing York or Humber fast track to save you time/$$.

The credits can be transferred if you obtained 70% or above check with Ryerson admission/transfer credits department.

Avoid Ryerson, Georgebrown and Centennial nursing! Seriously the third year community placement is a waste.

All you do is mopping the floors, sepecially the Early Year Centres those ece people treat you like a slave.

I'm a little confused by your comment.

George Brown and Centennial are colleges and only offer RPN which is a two year program.

So there isn't a "third year community placement", could you clarify what you're talking about?

Lol, i'm concerned because I'll be starting RPN at Centennial in September and was just wondering about negative feedback on the school

The commenter was referring to the Centennial/George Brown College Colloborative Nursing with Ryerson so the BScN program which has a third year community placement so since you are in the practical nursing program you won't get a community placement.
