Nipissing University Scholar Practitioner Program

  1. 0 This 2 year program started September 2011. I was wondering if anyone here is currently enrolled in this program or is anyone applying to it for Fall 2012?

I am curious to know how their program is structured and gain some insight from current students.

Hey guys! So I know a friend who is currently in her first year in Nipissing's SPP. As I am also hoping to get into the program myself this year, I inquired and here are some of the things she told me:

    - very self-directed; basically no teaching at all

    - very small class sizes

    - most learning is through placements: you get partnered with a nurse in your placements

    - lots of group projects and presentation

    - there are writing assignments based on placements (i.e. you set a goal you hope to achieve by the end of the placement period, then you write how you hope to achieve those skills, and then update it along the way, they are due at the end of the placement period)

    - there are exams each semester (big exams that usually require students to have 80% or more in order to pass, if not, they must repeat the semester; so kinda like make-or-break exams)

    - they have 3 semesters: Sem 1: September - November, December break; Sem 2: January-March, April Break; Sem 3: May-July, August break, etc.

    - Each semester is broken down to: 1 month of in-class, 2 months of placements

    - Toronto campus have no simulation laboratory, so most skills is practiced and learned during placements

    Hope the above information helps!

I'll post more if I found out some more information.

Thank you!!! This was very helpful. Do you know anything about the interview? What kind of questions do they ask? And do you know what the cut off for last year was?
