I know someone had asked earlier.. but I was also waitlisted and found out that approx 70 people were waitlisted for the august intake! hope that helps, i know its not the best number to hear

If you are having a hard time finding immunization records, I suggest going to Health services on campus. They know what they are looking for and can write you requisitions for any testing. They are also able to give you shots right there if you need boosters.

I was freaking out about this immunization thing today so I decided to get off my behind and do it.

I just typed "Burnaby Public Health Unit" in Google and there seems to be different locations depending on where you live in the Lower Mainland.

Since I lived and went to school in Burnaby I decided to walk in to the Burnaby one without calling ahead of time.

I walked in to the office, and literally 10 minutes later I walked out with a photocopy of my immunizations from elementary and high school. Unfortunately the ones from when I was a baby were put in storage, and they said it would take a month to retrieve. Seeing as the deadline is on the 21st I thought I was S.O.L.

I then went to BCIT Health Services, and within a 1 minute I was in the nurse's (who deals with immunizations) office.

She went over my records and even filled the form out for me. I told her about the missing baby records and she said it was fine as long as I brought it "???to the immunization session thing??? (i just nodded =P)"

She did tell me to get the Titre/Blood work thing done, and after getting the results I could hand in the Immunization records all together.

So I went to the walk in clinic at Brentwood and was in and out in 10 minutes.

So it doesn't really take that long. Just allow time for test results and stuff.

I was just wondering if anybody has received a textbook list from BCIT or any sort of information package in the mail. I think I'm just too excited to start getting everything done haha

Thanks smiley65 and co. for the awesome experiences. It was awesome until the student questions came. Then I almost fell asleep. Not your fault though.

I just looked over the Level 1 textbook list and there are about FIFTEEN textbooks listed. Just to clarify...

So we need to purchase the books for NURS 1040, NURS 1055, BHSC 1103 and in addition, complete all our pre-reading? How about the other books that were mentioned? Are they optional? Which books did you find useful personally?

Hey. So you need the course reader for 1040- but you won't know which one until you get your reading group in class, and you'll use the APA manual for your assignments in that course. For patho the book is optional IN ADDITION to what you'll cover in class that's "essentials of pathophysiology" . For 1020 there are lots of readings from both Canadian fundamentals and clinical skills and techniques. For 1055 you will need the course reader and the APA manual. If you don't get u-central you will absolutely need tabers, the drug handbook, and diagnostic tests. you for sure will use med surg, math for nurses (you can probably just borrow it from the library..one math test in week 6 in 1020) I love the care plan book and found it very useful! I also suggest buying drug cards...I wrote my own but that was very time consuming.....and I will probably buy some now anyways. You need the drug book and the pharmacology book for 1063. Don't buy brand new....I bought all my books "like new" and saved about 40 percent :) good luck with prep! I know the list is huge but alot of these books will take you through the course.

Hey.

I just had some questions about our schedule.

If I remember correctly, we are in the hospital two days a week - Tuesdays and Thursdays. Is the sim. lab scheduled on the same day as our hospital days? And I was looking at the sample schedule - where does pharmacology fit in?

It's a big adjustment and pretty confusing, so don't be sorry. You will have clinical on Tuesday's and Wednesdays. For the first 6 weeks you will be in the hospital 1 day a week and in 1019 with your clinical group the other day. During 1019 you will practice in the sim lab as well as discuss the case study assigned to you. You have another lab class- skills lab also called 1020- if your schedule is the same as ours, that class is on Thursday's. So after week 6, 1019 is done and clinical is 2 days/week. Pharm also starts week 7 and is an online class. Hope this helps :)
