Athabasca U - Post LPN to BN

World Canada CA Programs

Published

Hey everyone! I'm currently working as an RPN (LPN) in Ontario and I'm very interested in Athabasca University's Post LPN to BN program. Before registering I have a few questions and I hope you all can help me out.

The requirements include a graduation of a LPN/RPN diploma program, LPN license in Alberta, and a completion of 1700 hours equivalent to full-time work hours.

So, if I complete 1700+ hours, can I transfer to another unit or do I have to constantly be working at the same facility until I finish the program (like Nippissing University)?

Can I register to complete Cluster A while I'm accumulating my 1700 hours and waiting for my Alberta LPN license to process? Or do I have to wait until I complete all 1700 hours and have a LPN license in Alberta to register?

Please let me know! I want to register as soon as possible!!

If the admission requirements are 1,700 hrs I imagine you have to have proof of the 1,700 hrs before applying to the PN-BN program. I don't think Athabasca cares if your total hours are at one employer because unlike Nippissing where you can do clinical placements with your employer, with Athabasca you do your clinical placements in Alberta health care facilities.

you can get all the Arts/electives out of the way while working on the required hours.

the completed hours can be spread over several employers as long as you have documentation.

The hours are required before your formal acceptance into the programme. I believe that you must obtain and keep registration with CLPNA during the course duration
