Before the Morning (Failed CRNE three times. what now?)

World Canada CRNE

Published

I just received a bad news. My nursing career is over. Yes, I am no longer one of you, but I feel a need to share my story. I have failed the CRNE for the third time and honestly, I don't know what is there left for me. I know things happen for a reason. sometimes, i just think that GOD is being so unfair. Throughout my nursing school, all i did was to do my best both theory and clinical. I have received praises being a "very good" Graduate Nurse. But then again, all has to end with an examination that I can't seem to pass even though I have put my thoughts and heart on preparing for it. At some point, I think of myself as a dumb individual, up for no good. If nursing was not meant for me, why did HE made it possible for me to even complete my Degree Program? I have so many questions to GOD right now. I have prayed hard for that moment of finally receiving a letter with the word "PASS" on it, but instead a phone call saying I have failed on my third attempt and had to wait for a letter containing my options.

Nursing Has always been my dream and I can't see myself pursuing other career in life. I don't think I can handle another 4 years of schooling or even the strength to even try to put my life back on track. I know that God has a reason for why I'm going through this test right now (one I consider the hardest test in my life, so far), and probably there is more to come. I have so much faith in him that in spite it all, I still look forward to that one morning of waking up from my sleep and the pain, the sadness, the sufferings are over. I know that HE works in ways unimaginable. I know that he hears my prayer and in his own time he'll grant those prayers. But for now, all I needed is some sort of encouragement from you, whoever you are reading this post right now.

I still thank GOD because I have my life, I am breathing, I can still appreciate all the good things he had created. As long as there is tomorrow, I will continue to fight a good fight!

how do go about getting anohter chance considering the allotted time. please.

I am so sorry to hear that. As a European RN I pass the CRNE 2005 very easy. Actually, I studied three or four months from some preparation material what I got from my friend. She took some classes with some Philippines teacher. I think that his name is Andru. I don't have any contact phone number unfortunately. Best wishes.

yahy: I am just wondering what to happen to you now. I just registered in this website couple of days ago, reason, I just finished my cpnre exam last Wednesday and I was hoping to find something about how the others thought of the May 15, 2013 exam. I admire you for standing in faith though you are facing really a hard time. It is hard to proclaim your faith and trust in HIM when things get rough and I applauded you for still listening to HIM though everything seems unimaginable. I hope you are doing well. I am not sure if you are still able to get this message as I think the last comment was 3 years ago. Everything happens for a reason and maybe one of the reason is when someone will find in the same situation and read your words and how you keep on trusting and believing and fighting and listening to God despite of whats happening, somehow they will find their own strength to fight and believe again. It is not guarantee that you pass on first try someone will be a very good nurse. I have seen from clinical experienced before that yes, they are very smart nurses but they seems to be missing compassion, care and empathy to patient.

Anyway, I really hope and pray the best for you.

OMG! I don't know what I would do?!? I wrote my PN exam in 2009 and actually found it quite easy (besides all the maternity stuff)! I am currently enrolled in my RPN to BsCN program; it is a 5 year blended program affliliated with my hospital, and the fact that its taking me 5 years to become an RN (it's Part-time) I ALREADY know that at the end of the program BEFORE I attempt the exam, I WILL take a REFRESHER course to fill in some of the holes my school may have missed!

Lilke some people have mentioned, if you failed it the first time did you ever think of taking such a course to re-learn some of the things that you may have not known, or stuff the schools failed to include in their program.

If you passed the RN program you should not have a problem writing the RPN exam, and don't feel bad about doing so. The RPN (when I took it) was only 2 years compared to the RN program which is 4, consider this.

Work for a while as an RPN and then bridge to become an RN. What I like about the route I chose was I was able to gain my confidence as an RPN on a medical floor. I teach students, and train new hires. I am constantly reviewing work as I teach others.

All the best!

I work in an authority where some IENs managed to fail CRNE x3 and were given the chance to write CPNRE. Some managed to pass, others failed x3 and were walked out.

CPNRE is not a consolation prize for failed RNs. Many say they found it difficult, the majority of people educated as PNs don't have problems.

Not a consolation prize but if they took a 4 year nursing program then they SHOULD have the knowledge to take the 2 year PN exam. Just IMO :)

... but not necessarily enough to pass the RN exam?

Absolutly!! I totally agree with you! I haven't even completed my BScN bridging and know that after taking this course PART-TIME for almost 5 years next year, I will need a refrescher course to top up my knowledge before I take the exam! Its motivation. I deeply feel for those who have failed 3 times, honestly, would never wish that on anyone, but there comes a time when you have to ask yourself "what did I do wrong the FIRST time, and what can I do to make sure that I increase my chances and be prepared for the next time?"

A colleague of mine failed the first time, because he told me in honesty "I didn't study as much as I should have". He's now an ICU nurse and quite smart! He took the refrescher course after he failed the first time, which costed him like $800, but in the end that's NOTHING compared to some of the stories I heard on here!

Hi Survivor007,

I also failed my CRNE exam on my third attempt. I am planning to appeal for the fourth time. It would be a great help if you could give me info how to go about.

Thanks.

Hi Yahy,

I am also new at this site and i happen to see your blog about how you failed the CRNE 3 times. I too happen to be struck with the same faith. Its rather sad but it has happened and i don't know what to do. I attended Prep classes to help me with the exam but it didnt. I was wondering if you can help direct me as to what i need to do in this situation.

Thank you so much and GOD bless

It seems this message was posted about 2years ago... but I too failed the CRNE a 3rd time and i was wondering if u can help me as to what to do to get the 4th opportunity. I am new at this site so i really dunno how it works

You ONLY get 3 chances. There is NO fourth chances; if you received another chance, then technically it would only be fair if all the other students got another chance, but then what is the point of rules/requirements.. Unfortunately, the only way to become an RN at this point is to redo the program all over again, or you could enroll in the program for practical nursing.

Sorry :(....
