next summer

Specialties Camp

I am in my last year of a RN diploma program. I have 2 kids and I am interested in getting a week job next summer at a overnite camp so my kids can go. I would like one that has horse back riding at least part of the day.

I will be an RN by then

Thanks

It has been 6 years since I did a camp nurse job. At that time the camps were alowing a break on tutition for childern of the staff. In our camp we had 4 nurses and the head nurse was able to bring her two boys for the entire summer in liue of her payment. Now this was an all summer long boys sports camp in the berkshire mountains. Hope this helps.

Dunno where you live, but I'm in southern NH and I camp nurse in the Lakes Region of NH

Our camp will hire a nurse for a week (though two weeks is preferable). You receive a per diem salary, room & board, AND your kids go for free. There would be an additional charge for horseback riding as that is an "extra" program at our camp; last year that was $100/wk/camper and the horseback session is only for an hour or so a day. Only other camper "extras" are for off-camp trips, like white water rafting and overnight hikes away from camp.

We have hired brand new RNs in the past. My camp is all girls, but we also have an all boys camp nearby.

Hi,

I would highly recommend going to the Association of Camp Nurses, ACN, www.campnurse.org. There are posting about jobs. Of important interest are Tips for Camp Nurses, a subsection of the Camp Nurse Job area. The information will help you in making a plan about interviewing prospective employers. I have belonged to ACN for over 10 years. The Association has been of great help providing educational information, first hand feedback of camp experiences and product information review. For me, ACN sets the "gold standard" for setting up and providing health care in a camp setting. Susan Morse, Vista, CA
