Camp Nurse Job

I am considering taking a camp nurse Job as a job share with my husband - so that we can both keep our real jobs-do you think it is do able the camp is about hour and half drive from our home do you think it is do able how many days and nights would the nurse me expected to cover. So the plan would be for us to take our three boys to the camp and we could share the camp job between us- whilst commuting to other job-husband works three 12 shifts I work two we could also take some leave to help- what do you think.

In order to comply with American Camp Association standards, the camp simply needs an RN to be onsite daily--no particular amount of time. Some camps have a nurse who comes for an hour or two per day in order to check special cases, review records, etc. It depends on how badly this camp needs a nurse--they may be willing to let you set your own schedule.

However, I do think it would be exhausting. Camp nursing is often easy, but there are also often a lot of late nights. I think it could be hard to leave your other job and have to go back to camp--even if you didn't go straight to being on-duty at camp, it might be harder to relax.

Good luck! I would be sure to visit the camp to make sure the living situation and the commute are doable.

Thanks - I do not think that I made it clear that we are both RN so we would be doing a sort of camp Job share.

Hi I am a camp nurse in a day camp in NJ . Last year was my first year with a nurse with 13 years experience in camp and I was just returning to nursing after being home with my 3 kids for 10years. I learned so much last summer. She is not returning and I am very anxious but trying to be as cautious and organized as I can. Threre has always been 2 nurses in this camp the "new" director thinks i can work with a mom or emt. Do I need someone to work with me who is qualified to give meds? Not so much standing meds but asthma prn meds etc. what if i am not there for whatever reason. The camp has 400 kids!!!! There is a one week overnight at the camp which someone either me or the other person needs to be present.

Anyone out there want to be in a day camp in Monmouth county June30-Aug22nd?
