Whats going on at CSULB - Long Beach?

U.S.A. California

I'm in the process of applying for the Accelerated BSN program at CSULB. Most of my application has already been submitted. They just announced that they will no longer will offer the Accelerated BSN program, but instead a accelerated BSN/MSN program with Clinical Nurse Specialist emphasis. So the program just went from 16 months to 36 months! I don't understand how they could change the program in the middle of application process. Does anybody find this unusual or is this common occurance in nursing education? Anyway, they mentioned that few students will be able to opt out after completing their BSN; however, they have not establish the creteria opting out. Is this a bad sign? Does anybody have any experience or feedback with CSULB? Also, what is a Clinical Nurse Specialist? How are they different from NP? I'm so confused and shocked.:uhoh21: Please help!

Gosh I was so scared! I submitted the application to the university already. I got really nervous because I had just filled out the program application before I read your post. Phew! I feel so much better now!

lol.. sorry about that! Yeah it is awesome that they received funding because I really like the program. I am hoping that this year is not as competitive as the previous years since I think a lot of people will think that the program didn't receive funding unless they were checking the website every day like myself! :) I am so ready to start nursing school! Anyway do you have all of your classes complete and have taken the TEAS?

I am glad they received funding as well. I had been checking and rechecking the site for some time because I was slightly devastated when they said they were taking it away for a while. This is pretty much my dream program! Hopefully the applicant pool will consist of a bunch of dedicated students who just really wanted this really badly. :)

I have all my classes finished, thank goodness, and I took the TEAS last month. I am so ready to start I can hardly contain myself.

That is awesome did you take the TEAS at Long Beach? I am currently taking Physiology and Pharmacology at Goldenwest I figured it would be nice to have these classes complete before entering the program. Are you going to go to the information session on Feb the 28th... I am definitely going to go... maybe I will see you there!

I did take the TEAS at Long Beach since it is the only school I am applying to that needs the TEAS result before admission is granted. It is definitely a good idea to take physiology before entering the program. I believe it is one of the requirements. Did you apply with that as your one in-progress class? I took physiology last semester, and I actually liked it a lot. I took pharmacology last summer at LBCC. My teacher was pretty awesome. She was very hard on us, and her exam questions were definitely NCLEX-style, but we learned a lot. I took the class with my friend who is in the nursing program at LBCC now, and when they got to meds she was already a step ahead and well prepared, so it is a good class to have under your belt. I am taking medical terminology (mainly to see how much anatomy and physiology I will need to brush up on before starting a program in the fall :o ), Spanish 2 and health care law. Those are my "waiting to find out something" classes. :lol2: I will be at the information session next week. I want to see how many people realize the program is back and get as much information as I can. Hopefully I'll see you there!!

I meant to say pathophysiology not physiology... I am eager to meet everyone... What does your friend say about the program obviously they like it... I am so nervous I am throwing all of my eggs in one basket LB is seriously my dream school as well. I am patiently well not really patiently waiting for march 1rst so I can submit this application.... Do you know if we have to submit a set of transcripts with our application. I have heard that we didn't need to because they make a copy on the computer and the nursing school has access to it. But then again when I read the frequently asked questions it says to attach a set of copies with the nursing app? If you want to meet a couple more people who are applying I started a thread Fall 2011 CSULB el-msn. There are about 5 of us on there. Good luck and see you on Monday!

I got your PM, but because I haven't made 15+ posts yet I can't reply :crying2:

I have two friends in the program at LBCC, and they both really like it. It is tough, and they spend every Saturday in study goups, but they are very happy with it so far.

This is definitely my dream program. I can't believe you put all your eggs in one basket though! That's scary!!! As impacted as all these programs are? Are you sure you don't want a backup plan? You still have time to sneak an app in to Cerritos. Their filing period is March 1 until March 15 I believe.

As for the transcripts at CSULB, ---- proctored the TEAS when I took it, and she told us to submit the transcripts to the university as soon as possible so they could be evaluated. She said the nursing department is not able to take our transcripts and that they do the rankings by looking at the transcripts via a database on campus after they have been reviewed by thecollege. She told us to do this quickly because (1) we cannot turn them in with our program app and (2) if she goes to do our ranking and our transcripts aren't in yet she moves on to the next app. Hope that helps.

I need to go check out that other thread!

Yeah I mean I submitted my transcripts when I submitted my application via csu mentor... so I guess they will use those transcripts

What version of the TEAS did you take?

V. I think that's the only one that will be offered and accepted from here on out. Did you take a different one?

I took version 4 last June... I took for another school and then ended up not applying to the other school but I am glad that I did it! Yeah I don't think anywhere offers version 4. I got really worried that I would have to take it again but Long Beach said that my version 4 would be fine.

Thank goodness! I am very interested in seeing how many people show up to the information session Monday.
