What Is The Nurse/Pt Ratio For MED/SURG Unit?

U.S.A. California

:pHELLO EVERYONE

Could Someone Please tell me what the typical Nurse/Pt Ratio is for The 7PM-7:30AM Shift on a MED/SURG Unit? I am a New Grad, & Just got hired at GROSSMONT HOSPITAL in San Diego, for The New Grad Program. Also, How many Pts do they usually start a New Grad with? Do they also still use CNAs & LVNs to work as a team with The RN? I sure Hope SO!:( I Just Pray To God they we will get Some Kind Of Support with Pt Care, As I don't want to experience Early Burnout. I Know that working 3 12/Hour Shifts a week on a Super Busy Med/Surg Unit can Wear a Person Out.

I Also heard from Kaiser in San Diego, But Many People cautioned me about working for them. I have heard that they will work your "FANNY" Off, as well as They Throw New Grads To The Wind! I also heard that they Pay The Highest of anyone in San Diego, But there is a Reason For it. They expect a Year or Two commitment, & if you quit before that, You have to Repay Some of The Money Back:uhoh21: Now, we all know how Rumors get started, But is there any Truth to any of this? I am Very Curious, & would Like to Hear The Gospel Truth from Someone who Knows for sure, as well as Someone who went thru their New Grad Program, or worked for them in any other Capacity. The Reason that I am asking all of this is because they offered me more money to start, as well as the option to work 2 12/Hour shifts per week, instead of 3. They said that The Medical/Dental are the same for the Part-Time Employees, as they are for Full-Time. Also, what is their Nurse/Pt Ratio, & do They Use CNAs or LVNs to assist RNs? I am Very Curious, & Hope That Someone will Set The Record Straight:bow: ALL REPLIES ARE MOST WELCOME, & WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! THANKS IN ADVANCE!:yeah:

Ratio law in CA is five patients to one nurse, no matter where in the state that you are located in. The facility can make the number less of patients, but that is then there choice. But they cannot give you more patients than that number.

Shift does not change things.
