What can I do (new grad)

:(Does anyone know if there are any job openings in California for new grads? I graduated a year ago and I've had no luck. I continue to apply but it's very frustrating not being able to find anything. I've lost count onall the applictions that I have summited and nothing. Should I volunteer, go to a nursing home or what what can I do to be acknowledge and keep updated? Please help I don't want to give up:cry:. Thanks

After a year of not finding a job why would you NOT go to a nursing home? Sure beats unempoyment and no experience at all. Sorry if I sound rude, just suprised.

Yes. Apply at a nursing home. It will be tough in the beginning because there will be many things to learn and patients to take of but I really think you'll get down to a routine because most patients, their meds, and treatments generally do not change too much in nursing homes.

I'm a new grad and will be applying to nursing homes if I do not hear back from a facility i have applied to (supposedly my connection is trying really hard to get me an interview).

i created a thread asking for help with questions i should ask before accepting a job at a nursing home. I find it very useful. :)

In this economy the main question to ask is: Do I get a paycheck?

I agree-- check out SNF in your area. Someone in the other forum posted a link to a list of SNF and subacute facilities in CA: https://allnurses.com/california-nurses/californias-2009-new-389301-page46.html

I graduated in May 09. I'm still looking for a job too. In the mean time I started volunteering at the local ARC and VA hospital. I think volunteering in a hospital or a place associated with one is a good way to network and at least feel productive.

I agree! It all we can do. Not what we thought would happen after so many years of schooling and people telling us what out great job security, but you have to do what ever it takes. Volunteer, SNF, night shifts.....

*** I don't see why you hesitate to work in a nursing home to start out whne few other jobs are available. Lot's of jobs here: http://www.ihs.gov/jobscareerdevelop/careercenter/vacancy/

They would likely be happy to take a new grad.
