UCLA MECN FALL 2013

U.S.A. California

Have been looking around and haven't really seen a topic on this yet. This is my dream school/program. I am from Seattle so I am having to get a lot of info from them long-distance instead of going to an information session. Has anyone gone to an information session yet?

Any updates on the waitlist?

I emailed D today about the number of alternates that got accepted as of today and she said that 20 alternates have been accepted.

Thank you tweety2013. I hope that changes soon :(

Hello,

I was recently accepted to UCLA's MECN Fall Quarter, 2013. It is difficult to get information for this program however; once you apply and are accepted, the Nursing department sends you a list of things you must complete before starting UCLA. This is relatively easy process. From my experience this is what has happened so far:

- Acceptance letter into program.

- Complete the Statement of Intention to Register and Statement of Legal Residence

- Complete all financial aid (FAFSA)

- Sign up for Bruin Account

- Enroll in an Epidemiology summer course (Nursing 50)

- Apply to housing (your choice)

- Complete all health requirements: immunizations, (positive titers to Hep B, Measeals, Mumps, Rubella Varicella Zoster), Neg tb test, TDap, "Good Health Statement" form doctor, and Seasonal Influenza vaccine

- Complete Background check

- Complete BLS-CPR course

- Complete HIPPA training on-line

- Attend a 2-day mandatory orientation

Hopefully, I have been some help to you. Good luck in all your endeavors!

Thanks @mdelruth for the step by step procedure! Were u recently accepted off waitlist? I am still waiting to get off waitlist. Has anyone after number 20 get in from the waitlist?

I called on Friday and they haven't let any other in since #20 :(

The person I spoke to mentioned that last summer, the last person admitted was offered a seat in late August. She suggested if you are willing to wait around for room to open up, to make sure epi is taken. I think I read from two other people on this forum that there wasn't a deposit required to hold your seat. It makes sense, considering she said a lot were let in from June-August, as there were a lot of people who winded up backing out.

June-August is quite a wait... around this time last year, they got through the 30s. I really hope things pick up this coming week! I am wishing for the best! And maybe someone can follow up again next Friday!

Thanks @Ltho for the update! I sure do hope we all get in from waitlist. Two people from this forum did mention that ucla accepted all the people on the waitlist from the past two cohorts, and I am hoping everyday that UCLA will do the same this year. Yes, I will follow up on Friday and let u all know more updates.

I was accepted off the wait list earlier this morning! I was #21, good luck to everyone else!!

Thanks @fw2525 for the update!!!!!!

Is anybody worried about Financial Aid? I got in (I am one of those who applied and didn't think about it until I got the letter!) I have another Masters in Theatre -- yes, I am an actress -- but don't become an actress to get into MECN -- becoming an actress is too expensive! And that's my question: it seems no one is freaking out about the loans! And we don't find out about scholarships until after we accept....I know I will be applying to every grant, scholarship I can! Anybody have any good information to share about grants, etc.???? Thanks!

I just emailed them and 22 people have been accepted off the alternate list as of today.
