UCLA Extension for Pre-reqs

U.S.A. California

I wanted to know if any of you have taken any of the required prereqs, particularly the sciences, at UCLA extension? These courses (physiology, anatomy, and microbiology) transfer to UCLA as well as other universities. I'm enrolled in Physiology for the Winter 2010 quarter and just wanted to get some advice from anyone who has taken prereqs there and what can I expect in terms of difficulty, especially since it's quarter system. Thanks!

I'm thinking of taking Microbiology for the winter. Did you find out any more information about the science classes at UCLA extension?

I attended this school right out of high school and found myself inadequately prepared for the rigors of the courses there. Although college prep, my high school did not have a clue when it came to getting me ready for UC. I would imagine that the extension courses would not be very much easier than regular session courses. But one thing I saw recently that I found intriguing is their courses for seventh graders and above. No where near anything like this was available in my day and time.

Well, I am actually a student at ucla. Unfortunately the Microbiology class during winter quarter does not fit into my schedule and is already filled up. So I was considering taking the extension course. I know science classes here are cut throat but I would like to know how the extension classes are...especially since I will be taking 14 units at ucla also (psychology and my music major classes).

Just a heads up...the microbio class (Microbiology for Nonmajors) does count for ucla nursing prereqs but it does not have a lab portion. So I don't think it'll count for other schools.

I checked with the school I'm applying to and they said it counts. Actually all of the UCLA extension courses (Anatomy, Physiology and Microbiology) are accepted.

Also, I attended UC Berkeley as an undergrad and USC for grad school while working fulltime (I'm 30, making a big career change with hopes of becoming a neonatal nurse pratitioner). So I'm not too worried about the difficulty, as I am of the short length of time of each course, as I'm use to semester systems.

I've taken the PR certificate program through UCLA extension, and although I know science is a different beast, I think most of their classes are geared toward working professionals and taught in a very practical manner, as opposed to an on-campus university course.

may i ask what schools you are applying to?

bumping this old thread but I would like to know which nursing school accepts UCLA extension classes plus the MIMG6. Please respond! thank you!
