Transferring to CSULA for BSN Programs

U.S.A. California

Hey Guys,

So I attend UNLV right now as a sophomore and most of my pre-reqs are done. I want to transfer to CSU Los Angeles, or I guess any other cal state or ucs for the bsn program. My gpa is a 3.0; however, I need to retake my bio classes since I got Cs on them. For the rest of my classes, I earned As and Bs. I was just wondering if its possible to get accepted by these schools (specifically CSULA). Also, I havent taken my TEAS exam yet. It would be great if someone replied to this!! Thank you! :)

Have you looked into their repeat policy? Some schools won't accept repeats on courses that you had passed.

CSUs are very competitive, and you will likely need at least a 3.6 GPA and an 85% on the TEAS to be considered.

If I bring my GPA to 3.5 and I ace the teas, do you think I can get accepted? I also started volunteering at a hospital and I plan on continuing for 6 months. The schools that I have been looking at does accept repeats.

Do they accept repeats on courses that you had already passed?

Look at how long you need to volunteer in order for it to give you credit toward your application. It is often a year or more.

The GPA and TEAS scores really depend on the pool of applicants, if that makes any sense. Considering that the school is basically skimming the top however many people off the top of the applicant pool, it really depends on the people who apply that cycle.

You may also want to look at if they offer preference for local students. I know that Sonoma State offers 15 points (out of 100) for students applying with transcripts from local schools, for example.

It's always worth applying, but you may want to widen your circle. Consider ADN programs as well, just as a "fall back", and then you can bridge to BSN once you graduate. Some programs have it set up that you can earn your BSN concurrently with your ADN.

Call the nursing program directly, even if someone here attended the program they can't give you a definite answer. You can have 4.0 perfect teas whatever and still not get in. You're gonna get in or not, its still the schools decision and what people say (including my own) weigh nothing.

YES. There's no way any of us can know whether or not you will be accepted. There are a lot of factors to consider, like the ones I listed. Contacting the nursing programs directly will give you the most accurate information, but even then, they won't make you guarantees or give you a definitive GPA that will get you in or whatever.

I may not be in any nursing programs yet but I think I've done a lot of research. It depends on which school you'd like to attend but it IS tough. Some schools only accept CA residents because of impaction. Good luck though! I have another friend going to UNLV for nursing.
