Starting a thread for SDSU Spring 2013 Cohort

The main question that is floating around right now is:

Are transfer students eligible for Spring 2013?

We know there is no Spring admittance but will we be able to be admitted for Fall 2012 and start some GE classes while waiting for Spring?

travelling the threads again looking for the info on spring 2012 admittances I learned they heard July 25th..but I got something better (you probably read it at one point also but just in case..and for our lurking friends)

"To clarify I applied and was admitted to sdsu for fall 2011 but was admitted to the nursing program for spring 2012 "

unfortunately this person is talking about how they failed to take any GE courses in the fall while waiting for the spring program and was subsequently dropped by the university; for us though it is another check in the positive column!

It will be a super busy time those 3 weeks or so before fall but nothing impossible, people are always looking for roomates (I'm thinking 2 hours is just a bit too far for your commute)

It would actually work out so perfect if we (and whoever else is in the same boat) get to enroll for fall and get some GE done instead of trying to do it concurrently with the program (or heaven forbid after!!)

Spring 2013 applicant over here, not too sure if I'm going to get in anymore looking at others stats in Fall 2012. My stats are (after this sem) are going to be around 64-69 points depending how well I do in my classes. I did the volunteer experience (hope it counts.. Was hardly hands on since I wasn't allowed to handle patients very much), got a 88 on the TEAS, currently have a 3.73 cum gpa, 3.81 pre-req gpa, but am still taking physio.

Just recalculated some options, and If I manage to get an A in physio, A-'s in 2 of my classes, and a B in my other class, I'll be able to get 69 points.

@JeffyDOS

I was suprised by the fall numbers too, but those with the high numbers are already working in the field I think. It's tough to compete without work experience (though the voulnteer helps)

I deffinately don't feel competivie right now at 64, I think I may have jumped ahead of what is realistic but I couln't help myself from applying since I graduated with my pre-nursing AA in December :) If I have to reapply next fall I will have 74 because I will have work exp. which seems to be competitive, I think some 70's got in right?

Just get those A's, I think 69 is still good for Spring but we won't really feel any comfort until July.

2 hour commute?! lol yeah definitely not! It will be nice to take GE's separate from the nursing classes. I didn't apply for campus housing so yes, looking for a roomie might be a tough one. Anyway, Thanks for the good news. That made my day :)

@PCroizierYeah, that is true. We *may* have a shot though since, like you said, there were some 70s that got in, and the Spring cut-off is generally lower! And at least you know if you have to reapply, you'll have 74 points when you do! That's awesome. If I reapply I could only increase my points by 5, I don't think I'd have enough time to get my CNA AND 1,000 hrs, probably just 100 hrs.

Best of luck to both of us!

Hi guys, I've been on the fall 2012 forum, but I thought it would be a good idea to join in on this thread since I applied for the spring 2013 cohort as well. I can't wait til' we start hearing about acceptances.. July seems so far from now ! I'm excited to see this thread get more traction.

Did anybody apply to other schools for Fall 2012? I got accepted to SJSU's nursing program and I actually ITE for the school and the program already but my first choice is SDSU so IF i get in, I'll probably turn down SJSU and go down to SoCal, which is where I want to be (I live in SJ)! I also got waitlisted for Sac's nursing program but i didn't want to take the risk even though I really want to move away from home for a while. I'm praying that SDSU accepts me though because like all of you said, work experience is really important to SDSU and unfortunately, I don't have any.

I wanted to ask though, if you guys get accepted Spring 2013, would you be taking classes for Fall 2012? I was wondering if there are certain GE's we can take before actually entering the program. I was also thinking of maybe taking a CNA course and work as an assistant for the time being while taking some courses at SDSU? I'm just brainstorming so if you guys have suggestions, let me know!

Here are my stats for those who are interested. (I know I was whenever I read through people's posts): prereq: 3.91 gpa, overall: 3.85 gpa, TEAS: 83%, volunteer experience. so around 72 if I calculated everything right.

Good luck to everyone who is applying for spring 2013 though! I also heard that it's easier to get in for spring so I have higher hopes for all of us!

I'm pretty sure you will get in! Someone got into Fall 2012 with 70 points, so 72 is great!

I'm taking classes Fall 2012, but I'm already a student here. You should be able to take any GE's you need (I'm assuming the only ones you would need at this point are upper division, and PSY230).

I read in another forum somebody who was accepted to the spring program didn't take classes the previous fall and had their university admittance revoked.

If you made it into a nursing program somewhere else reserve your spot! Thats most important.

Cna is good if you think you are not competitive enough and need to add experience just to get into a program, but it is also hard to get in to a cna course..at least in SD. I put my name on a list in november of 2011 for the june cna program I am starting.

So I ended up with a total of 67 points. Praying that will be enough, but extremely nervous it won't.

I just got my rejection letter from the university. looks like i wont be getting into the program as well! Boo...well good luck to all of you

Well that doesn't sound good for me either I'm wondering still if it's just because we are transfers I guess I'll see soon. I haven't heard anything on my web portal, still says pending.
