SJSU Fall 2014

U.S.A. California

Published

Hi there! I started this topic since I couldn't find any threads for SJSU fall 2014 applicants. Care to share your GPA, TEAS scores, and impaction scores to get a better idea of the competition this season?

My stats are:

GPA (for 5 prerequisites): 3.95

TEAS: 90.7%

Impaction: 7.89

Hey,

Teabird, good luck on the application! I'm like you, sjsu only lol. Got any ideas where else you're gonna apply?

At East Bay, they get extra points for being students at the university, seems like u kinda get screwed. Does anyone know which hospitals they will have us at?

Greetings!

I am a Fall 2013 applicant who was accepted into the program, and I came here to reassure that each and every one of you has a fighting chance. On using the new application, my impaction score was relatively low compared to all of yours. Even considering the upward trend in impaction scores with each passing semester, last Fall saw a considerable number of applicants declining their invitations, thereby opening up many spots for other students. If you don't receive a response right away, there's still a chance you will hear from them as late as the day before orientation.

I believe they call you if you do not submit your response to accept or decline your invitation into the program within three days, so there is no need to be worried about lost mail. However, the coordinator does not send digital copies of the acceptance letter, except under special circumstances.

You've all worked hard to get to this point. I wish everybody the utmost luck! I second listening to music or undertaking other therapeutic commitments. Too much stress inhibits your immune system, and nobody here deserves that.

thank you! @Jaeby, what hospitals did you do ur clinicals at? (i think that's what they're called)

@fancyeyes Clinicals begin in second semester. My rotations are at Kaiser, which is a home hospital, so I'll be going there for the majority of the program. This prevents a student from experiencing a variety of hospital settings, but expedites paperwork in following semesters and allows more time on the floor.

oh right, I meant rotations, so the Kaiser in SJ and where else? Do they make you do a lot of difficult tasks on the rotations?

Hey @Jaeby,

Thanks for the reassurance! How are the classes in comparison to the prerequisites such as microbio, physio, chem, ad anatomy? In terms of difficulty if you mind me asking.

@fancyeyes As a home hospital, Kaiser is where I will be for the entire program. Many hospitals are offered by the program and vary with each semester, including VMC and El Camino.

Clinical rotations start with basic tasks delegated to the student at the nurse's discretion and the student's own assertiveness. You're not "made to do" difficult tasks so much as you seek them out (and they are not necessarily difficult so much as foreign); otherwise, you will only end up shadowing with little hands-on experience. It behooves students to initiate their own learning.

@twang624 In my personal experience, classes are most similar to physiology, minus the lab, in that you should always be up to date in your reading and understand how everything is interrelated. Picture taking four to five physiology classes at once: Time management is important in this program. Also, electrolytes are your very best friends.

I have applied to the MS Nursing program for Fall 2014 and they told me the letters will be sent out at the same time with the BSN letters. I am still waiting for them. Do anybody know if the Master's program is competitive?

@Jaeby physiology was one of my favorite courses, I'm a bit nervous about the workload. Approximately how many days do you study? How many classes are set up for you to take each semester?

It's confirmed!! They will either send the letters out tomorrow or Monday for sure.
