I'm not usually the type to forage through online forums, but what can I say - grad school apps are stressing me out! This should get the ball rolling...
Hello,
I joined all nurses just b/c of this thread! I have been patiently waiting to hear about interviews but have not received anything, by email or mail, from the school since submitting November. Pam, the assistant admissions officer, told me that if anything was incomplete or unclear they would let applicants know. How many emails have you received from them in total? I am so worried now!! Any input would be appreciated!
Hey live laugh love, how has this year gone so far? Where do you guys have clinicals? How are classes? Ha sorry for all these questions I am just wondering...also how was the interview? What types of questions were asked? Was it 1 on 1? What are the statistics of your cohort? Like gpa, teas exam, etc.?
Thanks in advance!!!
Hi Alyssag,
In my first semester, school was my life! There was always something to do every week, so be prepared to do a lot of sitting =P. Fortunately, I still had time to work once a week and spend a few hours with my family and friends on some weekends. In your first semester you will be taking Transitions to Nursing, Patho/Pharm, Mental Health, Health Assessment/Lab, Skills lab, & mental health clinical. For me, the classes weren't difficult or easy. However, I did study a lot. Clinicals are usually held in Oakland, SF, Walnut Creek, and Concord areas.
As for the interview, it depends if you're invited for CM or FNP. I interviewed for the CM track and mine was an individual interview. I can't remember the exact questions, but focus on why you chose this school and CM track, your background, strengths/weaknesses, and motivation for the profession. They will also go over your transcripts and point out any inconsistencies, so prepare to have an explanation for below average grades. In the end, you will have to write a short prompt.
For statistics, I'm sure you can find it online somewhere. I'm don't know my cohort's statistics, but I don't mind sharing mine. I had a 3.3 undergrad GPA, 4.0 prerequisites GPA, 86.5% TEAS.
If you get an interview, you're pretty much golden. Unless you're really bad at interviewing. For now, sit back and relax because that's all you can do! Be patient, they will not notify people until February. I didn't get an interview until the end of February!
Hope this helps!

Hi guys. Still no word about interviews yet but I called Samuel Merritt admissions office just now. She wasn't very helpful in the sense that she doesn't know exactly when the letters for interviews are being mailed out. However, she said interviews will be in February so SMU should still be sending out interview letters (according to her). Best of luck to you all!

Hi everyone! When people hear about interviews from Samuel Merritt, please post to this forum! According to one of the emails, faculty review should be done by January 17 so hopefully we'll hear by next week! Good luck everyone :)
