Sacramento State (CSUS) Spring 2014 applications

U.S.A. California

So it looks as though we don't have a thread going as of yet for the Sac State Spring 2014 Nursing application period, so lets get one going.

My name is Sarah and I am a current Sac State student. This is my first semester at sac state as I just transferred over from Sierra College in Rocklin. I am currently in Micro, but all other pre and co reqs done. Looking at 87 points if I don't get the 3 additional for optional criteria that I submitted for. I just submitted my application today, so now the wait begins.

Hi Everyone,

I have a question about the textbooks we need. Has anyone used the e-books for the program? More specifically has anyone used the e-books with an android tablet? I want to make sure that they work well before I pay for them. I read a few reviews for the app that is supposed to run the books on android devices and a lot of people were not happy with how it worked. If anyone has any experience at all with the e-books for the nursing program please let me know how they work, if you found it useful, if it did not work, if you would recommend e-books or physical textbooks, etc.

Thanks!

Have you read the link from the orientation website?

It says ebooks are required. Just curious if that info has changed. you can also try pageburst for free if you go on their website.

Hi GeePee,

I have no idea how I missed that...must have skimmed over that page . Thanks for pointing that out. It definitely says that e-books are required. The reason I was asking was because that Bookshelf app that we are supposed to use (on tablets/phones) has some pretty bad ratings overall and I wanted to know if it was worth it. I guess I will see how it works once I buy the books and try to read them on the tablet. I have read that the Pageburst site works better if you are using windows/mac but I find it incredibly difficult to read lots of text from a stationary monitor for extended periods of time and thought that a tablet would make it more comfortable. Thanks again for pointing that out.

RedHand7: My cohort also had to purchase the e-books for first semester. It was my first time purchasing textbooks in that format, so I was also pretty iffy about it! Though, to save money, I purchased the e-book only bundle. With the money I saved, I invested in a Nook HD+, and it runs on the Android platform. I haven't had any major problems with the app. You can highlight, add notes, etc. The search function is also incredibly handy! Just type in a topic you need more info on, and it'll search every book. You can always purchase paper books later on if you decide you'd prefer them. Some people did decide to go that route with a few textbooks, as you'll use some books a lot more than others. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hey... Random question,

Was orientation today or is it next week?

Orientation is next week. Have you started the list of modules we have quizzes on the first week or the monster list of abbreviations? So much for a winter break :) welcome to the nursing program :)

Orientation is next week. :)

Thank you!!

I already graduated but I will be helping out at the orientation. One of the professors asked me to come help facilitate a few things.

As far as modules and all that goes on in frontloading.... be sure you don't get behind. It is totally doable if you keep up and stay positive.

GOOD LUCK to you all!!:cheeky::nurse:

Congrats on Graduating vintageswagger! I look forward to meeting you! Keeping up is defiantly the game plan :) with 2 kids and a husband who works out of town during the week it's going to be essential because falling behind is a slippery slope for sure! I look forward to the challenge though!

If I have 60 points, is that too low for Sac State? I looked at the application statistics and it looks like they have increased every semester and the cut-off is usually 62 or higher

markspiegs...

yes, 60 is usually too low for Sacstate. the last few semesters have been over 65 and even into the low 70's. It is getting really competitive. :(

So last semester was really high at 72 pts and this semester was high as well at 69 pts. But don't let that stop you from applying. Every semester is different and you never know what will happen. Work on upping your points in what ever way you can, TEAS and extra criteria etc. Good luck, and I hope to see you in the program soon :)

For those of you who transferred from a Los Rios college did you need to take both Chem 305 and Chem 306 or did you just take 309?
