Sacramento City College ADN 2014/15 - Anyone hear a decision yet?

Hi Everyone,

I applied to CSUS (Sac State) American River College, and Sacramento City College for the Fall 2014 Nursing Programs. It looks like I will be less than 5 points shy from making the cutoff for Sac State (booo!) and I got into ARC as an Alternate for Fall 2014 which guarantees me a seat in Spring 2015 (YAY!!). I was wondering if anyone has heard from Sac City's nursing program with any decisions? My application status just says 'Application Received'. :nailbiting:

This is a rough process... I feel exhausted from the waiting. :) Thanks and good luck to all you applicants out there!

I received my acceptance letter today for Fall 2014!!!!

Congratulations Mark... :-)

Congratulations Mark, Lena & everyone else who has received good news... :-)

I was selected as an alternate for Spring. I wanted to stay at SCC but I think I will be attending another school in the fall. Good luck to everyone who got selected.

I just received a letter from SCC in my losrios gmail account, but no update on eservices. It says I was accepted as an alternate for Fall 2014 and invited to the orientation. Does anyone know how many students they accept each semester & how many alternate status are issued per semester? I didn't see any alternate number either... does anyone know how to find your alternate number? Thank you for any info & good luck in your pursuits

They typically take 30-33 students per semester. I would expect that they would take 30 initially, leave a couple spots open for roll-back students, and perhaps take an alternate or two. I'm sure they know where you stand as an alternate, but they might not let you know about that. I know in years past, if you were an alternate for one semester, you were accepted into the following semester. I don't know if they're still doing that with the newer process they're doing now. The status change in e-services (or lack of change) is very normal for SCC.

Congratulations! If you decide to accept the seat, be ready for a whirlwind of activity. There are some things that they'll want you to do right away and there'll be some things they'll want you to do by certain dates. Make sure those things are done on time. Remember, until you start class, your seat is contingent upon meeting the requirements. Once you start and you've got all the requirements met, you'll be in a well-established pipeline for the next 4 semesters. Pay attention to the first semester stuff as that WILL establish the foundation for subsequent semesters. It's going to be tough, a lot of studying, some different exams than you've ever had before, and it's going to be a lot of fun!

Do you know how many alternates are generally selected?

Jojag79, I don't... all I know is that typically each class usually has an alternate or two, and those are because someone didn't accept the seat that was offered. I know they used to assign alternates to seats in the semester following their alternate selection, but now that they're offering both fall and spring seats all at once, I don't know how they're handling the "alternate" issue. I know they used to have guaranteed seats for alternates in the following semester, and I suspect that they'll do the same thing going forward, but when alternates start, I don't know. I hope you get a seat soon or at least a known start date!

Congrats to everyone who got in! I got accepted for SCC for the Fall 2014 and ARC for Spring 2015. Anybody know which program is better??

Hi guys! I am in Sac city nursing program and am about to finish first semester! What I wish someone would have told me, is to look at the course booklist website for the books that they use for N407 at sac city. The Fundamentals of Nursing is the main book used throughout the course. You can buy an older version for cheaper to save money until you buy the new version for the class, but it would be a great thing to review or just read on your spare time before the class starts. A medical terminology class and a dosage calculation class would be helpful as well. I really wish I could have been a CNA before, it would have helped me not to spend so much time with the little stuff like learning how to make a bed, and brush a patient's teeth. Good luck to you all!

Thank you for your helpful advice!

I'm kind of biased... ;)

What I'm going to say is that both programs are good. Look at the class schedules over the past year and you'll have a good idea what the schedule will be for the coming 2 years. Pick the one that has a schedule that you can "live with" best for that period of time.
