Is anyone out there waiting to hear back from RCC? How many points do you have? It seems like 80 is the cut off......Does anyone know when we will hear from them on whether or not we get in?

Does anyone mind telling me their points, or at least tell me if an 85 or 90 is good enough? Here is my dilemna. I got accepted to San Diego State, but it's about an hour and 45 min I believe from Rancho Cucamonga. My husband thinks I'd be crazy to commute, but I'd hate to pass it up when I've been accepted. I was planning to apply to RCC for the spring, but SDSU starts Aug 29. I'd have to pass it up while taking a chance on RCC. And all the other CC's as we know are lottery or crazy wait list.

I am so determined to make the drive and I know I can find a carpool at least from Temecula down to San Diego. School starts at 7am and is out at 1pm (except for clinicals), so there would be no traffic. Just wear and tear on me and the car. I don't mind going to bed early and getting up early, but I'd be losing 3 hrs a day to the road.

My overall GPA only 3.00, but I have a believe 3.5 for both the sciences and those 6 gen ed classes. If I get an A in my current micro class, I should have 90 pts. 85 if I get a B. I want to apply to RCC because they don't use the cumulative GPA.

What do you think? Should I hold out for RCC? Do they still put priority of Riverside residents?

ohs wow if you are serious about driving that much each day...i would wait... u wont last the whole program like that... if you do your my hero haha

Congrats on getting into San Diego State! I agree, it would be hard to keep up with the program that is so far away, but sometimes it may be worth it. I had 85 points to RCC in got in, but you never know what the next semester will hold? Maybe more people will have higher scores than this semester? I think it is a gamble either way :( Sorry to say...

Another issue is your personal life... It appears you are married, but do you also have children? If so, how active are they? I would think if you don't, and it's just you and your husband, go for it ! He can take care of himself for a couple years !! But if you have children, that might make it more difficult! I have 3 kids and live close to RCC, and I am still worried, since they are all involved in tons of activities after school!

Sorry I couldn't be of more help :( Good luck to you !

Thanks guys. I do have kids, but really, if I'm home by 3-3:30, I won't be missing anything because my daughter is in school till then anyways. Luckily she's young and doesn't have sports. I'd be home in time for dinner every night except for clinicals, which is more than I could say when I was working. It's too bad RCC won't list their average cohort points.

RCC does not list their acceptance pts but I will tell you what I heard and read.

Spring 2010 - Read that some people got in with 80pts, some didn't. I know one person with 75 pts did not get in.

Fall 2010 - The nursing tech guy said if you have 90+ you have a really good chance. If you have at least 80pts, you may or may not get in but not guaranteed. It really depends on each semester. This semester, they only accepted 60 students. Last semester...I think it was 80, but more for sure.

Sorry, but I wouldn't drive that far. I need the time to sleep and sleep, study and then study, see my family and save gas money because nursing school is expensive!!!.

CC is a lot cheaper and I think it's worth the wait. I am glad I stuck it out and stayed with CC, whereas I can apply to entry level msn or bsn. (Taking it step by step):twocents::twocents::twocents::twocents::twocents::twocents::lol2:

Thanks Eliymo,

Everytime I think I can do the commute, I change my mind when I find myself sleeping in with my kids. 90 pts, I might be able to pull that off. I'm wondering if they breakdown the points even further. For example, 2 people may have 90 pts, but one person has one more A than the next person, but the points are the same because because it's either 4.0 or 3.5 on the scale.

Maybe I'll wait and see and just do some volunteer work at the hospital. Dunno.

Heartbeats,

RCC currently invites top students with the highest science GPA to take the TEAS at RCC. Note that these students are not in to the program yet. If you are not invited, you will have to go some where else. For more info, it is on the RCC RN website.

I would apply first and wait for an email about the TEAS invitation (if you were invited or not). If you will be applying this fall (sept/oct), you will take your TEAS beginning of Nov. I

I think most colleges only take up to 1yr(TEAS score). If it's older than that, you will have to retake. If you can take the TEAS now, do it. But do well.

Thanks Eliymo. I took the TEAS in April and scored over the 90 percent upper cutoff, so I am feeling pretty confident. But I got a B in A&P and I know there are those that have all A's for science. And then there are those with close to 4.0 overall GPA, while I'm at 3.5. I have my micro final in 2 weeks so we'll see.

The TEAS post was for Heartbeat...

Elle71, since you live in rancho ... how come you didn't apply around that area?

Eliymo...I will be applying at all the local schools, but RCC is my best shot because it is not strictly GPA. It factors in TEAS, which is a bonus for me. My situation is that I was accepted into a ABSN program with San Diego states extension program in Glendale, but the chancellor cancelled the program less than a month before the start (I was set to start on July 12th). So they offered us a spot at their traditional program on the actual San Diego campus. So I'm really trying to get a feel for my chances at RCC before I pass up my spot at SDSU. It kills me to be accepted and then have to decline because of the commute, but not know when I'll have another oppty.

Thanks.

Hi everyone : ) I am currently applying for the rn program and planning on purchasing the teas study guide but I'm not sure which version to purchase? Which teas test version does Rcc use? This information doesn't seem to be posted on their site? Any information will be appreciated thanks.

I took the TEAS in April for RCC and was told to purchase the 3.0 edition, but who knows, it could change by the next test date ? The ATI book helped a lot, but I also studied the "McGraw Hills Nursing School Entrance Exams" book which was in more detail...
