Hi,

does anyone know if the new entrance requirements for the El Camino nursing program in Torrance will be applied to the people starting in the Spring '09 semester.

I just saw their website and they're saying that it will be effective starting Spring '09, however when I spoke to the nursing department less than a month ago they didn't tell me anything, they just told me that I would start in the Spring.

I'm so tired of these people, they say one thing and then they go ahead and change everything, and they're so unhelpful.

I guess I will go and ask them again tomorrow but I was wondering if there's anyone here that might know what's going on.

Thanks for your help

Daniela

What are the new entrance requirements.

I was just there with a counselor and there was no mention of a new requirement.

Maybe I need to bring it up at my next meeting.

Thanks,

hi there,

i applied in october 2007 and i am finally starting the program next month yey!!!!!!!

they are changing their admission process, check the el camino website under nursing. starting from next semester you will have to pass the teas test to enter the program.

they made us take the test as well but we didn't have to pass it.

let me know if you have other questions

wow, back in 2007 huh? well, any information that you may have that you think would be helpful i would be greatful and appreciate it. im just trying to get as much info as i can from all different angles. oh and what is the teas? what is the passing percentage and what does the test entail?

I just spoke to someone at El Camino today and they told me its a two year wait, however the nursing counselors do not share that with you. It's really confusing. I think they get paid per applicant so they just recruit. I hear some lots of people were accepted and suppose to start in Spring and then they were contacted and said the dept made a mistake and instead they were placed on a priority waiting list.

This happened to me last semester when they called me and told me that I was going to start in the Fall of '08 and then I was told they made a mistake and was put back on the waiting list. I am now starting in a week and I didn't know they made this very same mistake again, it's pretty sad if they did.

Anyway, what I know is that everyone who was supposed to start in the Fall of '09 is actually starting now. I believe the waiting is now down to 1 semester. I will suggest to apply if you are ready and see how it goes.

Good luck.

I'm ready to apply if they don't need chemistry. So I am in chemistry now. Congratulations on starting the program. So you applied last spring?

I applied in October 2007 for Spring 2008 so it took exactly a year.

Actually, El Camino doesn't require Chemistry to apply. Chemistry is a pre-req for Microbiology and Physiology but if you already took them, then you don't need Chemistry.

Honestly I am so burnt out from the classes because I did not have bio 1st. I had to put in that much more time trying to understand my classes. Can you believe I started with Micro first, then Anatomy and Physio because the counselors said start with what ever fits into your schedule. And I just completed physio in 5 weeks. Man what a challenge. I could use the rest if I don't have to take chem.

oh one question - do they choose by GPA or just first come first serve?

No as long as you have a 2.5 and you complete the pre-reqs, you are good.
