LAC+USC interview new grad RN

U.S.A. California

Hey guys, I have a question. I had an interview with LAC+USC and received a letter that I passed the oral exam. I read in the letter that they are going to contact me if positions open up. I am a new grad RN. Have you been in my situation? How long does it take until they call you? Do we have another interview after the oral interview or this is it? Please share your experience with me..thank you

I was offered a position in the ER as well, congrats. Did they offer you the F position? Did they explain what that means?

Congrats to both of you! :-) The "F" means that it's a temporary position.

If anyone knows, correct me if I'm wrong. The "F" item is temporary. The training program is approximately 3 months long. I'm going down this week to begin paperwork, etc. and was going to ask more questions then. Does the hourly base rate increase once the position becomes permanent? I'm a nurse with 8 years of experience. The pay scale that i found on the county's website shows significantly higher pay. Thanks :) And congrats JGRN!!

I think the pay increases when the position becomes permanent (I'm not sure though). I was told I would be eligible for a permanent position in 6 months, at that time I would have to re-interview for permanent positions that are open at that time.

Thanks CoCStudentNurse. Are you starting on a med-surg floor? I was told in the interview that the ER training program is approximately 3 months long and after that, we begin working in the ER as a permanent position......as long as we get through the program of course ;)

Wow. 3 months is a nice training period. We only get 6 weeks on med/surg.

Yeah, I thought so too. The first 9 weeks is all classroom......in the interview I said, "Wow, like going back to school!" and they said, "yep!" Once we're in there they said they slowly ease us onto the unit.....

How's your process going CoCStudentNurse? I filled out the initial paperwork today and got my live scan done so they can start the background process. How long did it take for your background check to be completed?

I've been totally cleared (background check, health clearance, etc ...) and I'm just waiting on a start date. I went in for my background check on 7/13 and it was completed by 7/17. Mine was really quick but I know others that were hired the same week as me and are still waiting for theirs to clear.

That's awesome! I got a letter from HR today wanting me to call them. When I did, I told them that I already had my finger prints done yesterday. They said my prints were already sent off to the DOJ. Hopefully mine will go as quickly as yours! How many times did you have to go to employee health? Did you bring your immunization card with you? Let us know when you get your start date!

Yeah, I got the same letter a couple days ago also and it ended being nothing since I already accepted the position. I had to go twice to employee health due to the fact that they had to give me a TB test in addition to the one I got this year. Also, I had varicella as a kid, but they don't take that as proof of immunity to the disease so they had to take my blood for that. Still waiting to hear on a start date... they couldn't give me any sort of time frame on that.

I did my Live Scan almost 2 weeks ago and haven't heard back yet. Is this pretty normal? Thanks :)

Yep that's normal. It's been a month since I did live scan. Still waiting to go for the physical. I think our background cleared but they have to get clearance to schedule the physical. In talking to other RNs working for County & from old posts on here, it can take a ~2-5 months from hire to start date.
