Downey Adult School LVN orientation/testing

So I did my testing today, and I'm prettt sure I did great. If I'm not one of the 60 to get in I will be very surprised.

The test was very basic math computations, reading comprehension, and language skills. if anyone is going to be testing here over the next few weeks and you dont feel confident about it, go online and search for high school exit exam practice tests. That's pretty much what it was. Anybody who has college general ed courses done should not have a problem getting a high score at all. Good luck!

Hey!

I'm going to the DAS orientation/testing this Friday, Feb. 8 and I'm extremely nervous as well! Most of the threads on here for DAS are older so I'm glad you posted this! Lol.

How was the orientation? What sort of topics did they go over?

Was there a large group of people there?

Thanks for the heads up on the test! I've done college gen ed before so I feel pretty confident with that, the only thing that makes me nervous is the competitiveness! Only 60 out of hundreds is pretty daunting.

Hey, thanks for responding! I thought I was the only one going this time around haha.

They give you a handout, and the orientation basically goes over the handout. Info about the history of DAS, the orientation and testing, the pre-vn course, the actual program and cost, and they leave it open to questions throughout. After the orientation they give you about a 20 min break, so bring something to eat because once the test starts you are not allowed to leave until it's over.

Also, dont bring anything with you that you dont want to leave in a cubby. During the test the only thing they allow with you is water, and you have to have it on the floor next to you. Nothing else of yours can be on the desk.

The actual test consists of reading comprehension, mathematical computation, basic arithmetic, and language. And when i say all of this is basic I mean it. 9-10th grade level stuff. Soooo easy. What I think got people was the time. In math computation, there are like 20 questions, and you only get 20 minutes to do it. After finishing, I saw ALOT of people stressing and rushing to finish. You cant move ahead on the test either since it is timed. So prepare to be there till about 330-4pm.

Okay so first sorry I'm replying years later. I had to push back the orientation date to the 22nd, this past Friday.

First of all, the test was SO much easier than I thought. I know you had mentioned that but I didn't know just how basic it was. I don't feel like I struggled but I don't want to get ahead of myself.

We should find out by March 11. At least that's what we were told.

I'm kind of upset I didn't attend another orientation because the nursing director was not present that day & we were basically read back the powerpoint presentation by another woman. It's fine though, the process isn't too complicated.

I know I had read on forums around here about the competitiveness of the program, I saw someone mention 500-600 applicants. However, I counted 45 at the orientation and the woman there said we were "quite a big group" so I don't think it's that many people. That comforts me a little lol.

Yeah the test was a piece of cake haha. And that is definitely reassuring to know that there were only 45 people there. Hopefully we get in. The director did mention it will be posted between the 11-13th, so hopefully it's the 11th cuz I have been dying to see if I got in. Hopefully we both did!

When you started the program what was the schedule like? Mainly 9-5 classroom or was is random?
