CSUSM ABSN Spring 2013

U.S.A. California

Hi all,

I have applied at CSUSM for Spring 2013 Cohort, I am currently taking my last chem lab. I pray and hope that I get accepted. Please share your stories and progress....Thanks.

Hi Everyone!

I also got accepted into the ABSN program in Temecula two weeks ago. While I am very happy, the economic side of it is quite a different story. The tutiton of the two year program is about ~40,000 plus food and rent for the two years, I estimate around ~60,000+, plus interest on the loans. Financial aid for the progam only offers loans up to 7,500, which means the rest has to come from an outside private loan. How are you planning to go about financing your school, if you don't mind sharing? Are there any programs/loans out there that you would suggest I look into?

Thanks and Congrats everyone!!! :D

Hey Emily, I'm also in a current cohort. CSUSM continues to fill openings right up until the start of each semester. After turning in your letter of intent, you will be sent a packet to begin the background check and drug screen. I can't remember how long it took to get that in the mail but maybe a month? As you mentioned there will also be an orientation and just after this, registration. I suspect this last part will be in January just before the start of next semester. My cohort just received an email stating that if you change your last name during the program you will have to do your background and drug screen again.

I believe there is some sort of general student housing support on the main San Marcos campus. I suppose you could even live in dorms there. I believe there is an office that handles all this though it is easy to find rooms or apartments nearby. Some students post fliers on campus. At the Temecula campus you are basically on your own in terms of finding housing. Any other questions?

What did you get on your TEAS if you don't mind sharing.

So on my first try of the TEAS exam, I got a 77%. The 2nd time I got an 82%... I'm not sure if I'm happy about my new score since it's not a big jump from my previous score. My pre-nursing core GPA is a 3.19. I'm so scared that I won't get in with the stats I have now

MarkE, thank you for your info! I completed the intent, CSU mentor registration, background check, and got the e-mail for orientation. So I guess all I have to do is just to attend orientation, and wait to do the drug test in February? And I actually got into the San Marcos campus, so I would appreciate ideas on rooms closer to there if you know of any!

Also, MarkE, how do you like the program?? I've read that the first semester isn't too difficult, and neither is the second, but there is just a lot of busy work and reading. Is that true?

hey guys! I just got an email today saying that I got conditional admission to the Temecula campus! ahhh I'm so excited!

First, Kaolla56 Congrats! Sounds like you are in my friend!

Second, emily45 congrats to you also! I can only say that there are a lot of brand new apartment complexes within walking distance of the San Marcos campus and you can find constant listings for those on Craigslist and possibly through the housing office. I found some by just typing in 'CSUSM' on Craigslist - San Diego. Alternatively you can call into the housing office (I think there is one) or call into the School of Nursing and ask around. There are also dorms on campus and I have some evidence that they are desperate to fill rooms (a new dorm just opened for the first time).

Third, emily45 I do like the program. My entire cohort is amazing and so far the teachers are all positive and fun, the curriculum is interesting, and all my classmates seem mostly happy with things. The first semester is only 9 units of general ed. type classes, but it is a lot of reading and paper writing. CSUSM has this policy that all classes must write at least 10 pages or something like that, maybe a bit more? Anyway, it is not rocket science but they keep you busy.

hi! I am attending orientation this thursday (12/7) from 8-12 at Temecula and I was wondering if everyone will be attending the same one or are they splitting students into multiple days? I am very excited to find out more about the program and especially information about financial aid and loans. Hope to see you guys there? :]

Hi lanibear!

I'm also attending the orientation on the same day in Temecula! I'm very excited too :) BTW I feel like we should make a facebook page for our cohort since there are other ones out there! Should we?

I am attending orientation on 10th Monday at San Marcos. I thought we were going to have a combined orientation for both campuses. I guess not. I wish you all the best as we embark on this journey.... Keep us updated on how the orientation goes at Temecula.

I'm SO excited!! Today I was accepted into the Spring 2013 cohort at the San Marcos campus! I applied to the program in the beginning of October and was really worried that I was too late. I'm so relieved and can't wait to start!!

I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone at orientation next Monday! Does anyone know if a Facebook page for our cohort has been started yet?

CONGRATS to everyone that has been accepted! And GOOD LUCK to everyone still waiting! Don't give up hope!
