CSUN ABSN

Anyone applying for summer/fall 2012? Anyone can comment about the program (graduates, current students)?

Thanks!

@danceluver: That's mainly it. Most of the time you can choose between two sites -- except the first semester, where you're assigned based on your last name. Everyone for sure has to go to the VA for geri. And I think everyone goes to Northridge for psych.

1st semester: Kaiser Panorama/Valley Presbyterian

2nd semester: Northridge/St. Joseph (Med-Surg rotation); VA (geriatric)

3rd semester: Northridge (Psych rotation); Children's Hospital/Valley Pres (Pediatrics)

4th semester: Ventura/Antelope Valley (leadership)

Depending on where you live, it should take ~30min to get to the sites. For Children's hospital, past cohorts met up at the subway and took the subway there, so that took longer.

Clinicals run 0645-1900. 1st semester was 0645-1700. VA runs 0800-1645. 1st semester, we had clinicals every Saturday. 2nd semester, it's every Wednesday and Saturday for med-surg, and every-other-Friday for geri. Not sure yet how the other semesters play out.

hey guys, i got in! i'm trying to decide now. i got into three other schools but they are all entry level MSN programs (problem is that they are too far away). wondering if any one of you are thinking of being an NP or any type of advanced nursing career. i'm not sure what to do. CSUN is only 20 min from my house. all MSN schools i got accepted are over 1 hr drive. if you are thinking of MSN in the future, which schools are you thinking of for master's program?

i already have B.A., and mast'ers degree in something other than nursing. seems like going back and getting another B.S. seems not logical...but it's so do-able for me. love all the hospitals for clinical rotations too!

Congratulations on getting in all the schools, that is wonderful! I am thinking about getting an Advanced Degree in the future (hopefully), but want to start working ASAP and need to figure out which Advanced degree I would like to pursue, that is why I want to get ABSN first. If you are more or less sure which Advanced degree you want to get now, why not start on the way by getting ELM now. Btw, it will be taking me over an hour with all the traffic to get to CSUN and I am not too happy about the prospect:) So I hear you when you say MSN schools are far away. Oh well, I will just have to sacrifice time and gas money.

To help ease the anxiety for those who are still waiting, I recently received this response:

We anticipate completing the review process and letters will go out by next week.

thanks mandymay9129! i appreciate your post!

so quick question... did anyone interview for csun? i was just curious if they are just admitting based on the application =).

For those that got in, can I ask how you found out? Is it via snail mail, or email? And if it's email, which email account do they email you at - your personal one, or your CSUN one?

I am still anxiously waiting a response from them. I check everything everyday, but so far nothing.

thanks!

Hm well I didn't have a csun email account. I believe they email it to the one you put down in your application? It was a neutral-sounding email with an attachment. It's the attachment that tells you you're in.

thanks mrgershom! and a huge congrats to ya

so are we all gonna go to the rotations together? someone up there said something about a previous class meeting up at a bus/train station..

anyone still waiting to hear something from CSUN get anything in the mail yet?

hi everyone,

i just found this thread! :) i have been accepted into the summer 2012 cohort. i accepted since the deadline was march 14th (today), but am still waiting to hear back from 1 other school before finalizing any decisions. i live in monterey, so csun is further than i intend but the program has some great rates and feedback. i am also interviewing for csula's elmn program so trying to decide if i should go the msn route or stay on the absn route. any feedback!?

good luck everyone! :)
