Anyone applying for summer/fall 2012? Anyone can comment about the program (graduates, current students)?

Thanks!

To answer Ilean811's question, I check marked Fall 2012 only.

Hi all,

I applied to CSUN as well and just checked my admission status on the MyNorthridge portal and it says: "You have been provisionally admitted to CSUN."

Does anyone else have this status? Or any status update?! For those of you who have already been admitted, CONGRATS!

@ happyperson2: I REALLY hope no new is good news, because thats definitely what I have right now!

Hi sanmahi!

I have the same status on the web portal page... I believe it's just to let you know that CSUN admitted you, but you have to wait to see if the department admits you =)

That makes sense, Thank you!!!!

Anyone know where the form they sent us to accept or not to accept, is supposed to be mailed? LOL--there is no mailing address on the paper?? Thanks for the help!

I mailed it to ---- (forgot last name), the person who sent me the confirmation email. Seems like a safe bet. Oh yeah, forgot to post, I GOT IN!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations, Mrgershom!!!

I mailed it to the same address that I used to mail my application package (was given the card with the exact address when I dropped off my application package). I sent it by certified mail just in case:)

@michelle1985 i am a csun alum (c/o 2009). i don't think that being an alum helps or hurts you, honestly. i was rejected the first time and had to wait two years (initially wanted to be in cohort 5, but i'm now in cohort 9) to get in.

however, in my cohort, there are 2 other csun alums who graduated (c/o 2010, c/o 1995).

mrmandap,

can you tell us anything about financial aid? I've been trying to look it up but it seems that 2nd bachelors gets no grants. Anything you can tell us?

How about living situation? I'm thinking about living in Santa Monica... maybe. Depends on which hospitals I'm placed at, and how much it costs to live close to school. Any input/advice?

No grants because it's a second bachelors. The best you can get is a $12,500 loan/year through FAFSA, which is part subsidized and part non-subsidized. I'm not sure if it covers summer (which I should start worrying about because I'll have to figure out how I'm going to pay for the upcoming summer session). You can always look at private loans and nursing scholarships (there's a great need-based one through the Kaiser Deloras Jones Scholarship fund.. it's worth $1,000)

I live at home right now. I did get lucky because I live 10 minutes away from campus. One classmate lives by himself at an apartment across the street from school, so he bikes to class and to Northridge hospital clinicals. Another girl is renting out a room in Granada Hills (I'm thinking ~$700/month). Another girl moved with her boyfriend from Las Vegas and has an apartment in Woodland Hills. If you're going to live alone, you will be spending at least $1,300/month on an apartment. Try to find someone to split rent, or bring your significant other along for the ride.

If you're going to move, I'd suggest moving close to campus. Santa Monica is too far -- traffic will be hell. I'd look in Northridge/Porter Ranch/Granada Hills/North Hills area.

Clinical sites are as follows: Northridge Hospital (5 min away from campus), St. Joseph's (Burbank), Kaiser (Panorama City), VA (North Hills), Valley Presbyterian (Van Nuys), Children's Hospital (LA). So, a lot of the sites are in the San Fernando valley.. maybe that will also help you make your decision.

Hi guys. I too am trying to get a better idea of how current or former students feel about CSUN's ABSN program (trying to decide between this and UCLA's MECN). Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated!

@mrmandap: Are there any other sites, or are these mainly it? How far on average are these other hospitals that are not in Northridge, does it take to get there? How are clinicals arranged? Mostly day, evening, or even weekends?
