CSULB Fall 2012 BSN

U.S.A. California

Published

Hi!

I think the CSULB School of nursing recently post new pool statistics including those who were chosen for Fall 2011.

http://www.csulb.edu/colleges/chhs/departments/nursing/docs/PoolStatsFall11.pdf

Knowing that the rating average is 8.91/10, that seems like a huge difference than the previous semesters!

Anyone else planning to apply to CSULB Fall 2012 BSN program?

BeachSideNic said emails should be sent out around April 15. That is really soon! We should by the end of next week (20th) I'm guessing.

hey guys im a sophomore hoping to transfer from cc for fall 2012~

this is my first time applying to bsn program for nursing for csus.. unfortunately, i got rejected to sdsu &csulb so far and have not yet heard back from csula or sfsu. honestly, i dont have my hopes up at all and i am pretty much anticipating my rejection letters... im really determined to get into a bsn program, but in CA all the BSN programs seem sooo competitive >

I have good science&overall GPA 3.8 and my teas score is decent 81%(first try), but apparently everyone else has so much better stats than me that i dont have a chance..

can you guys recommend me what i should do to continue to pursue my nursing career and getting my license???! I'm considering applying out of state somewhere (not sure where) for spring 2013 term if its not too late? i dont want to keep on wasting my time applying for programs in CA that i dont have a chance of getting into.. im not interested in getting associates &private schools are not an option for me because of the expenses. this semester is almost over and i dont have a clue what's next for me if i dont get in any schools!! ahhhhhhh

PLEASEEE give me some advice on what i should do!!? What would you do if u were in my situation? im so terrified &anxious& i feel like a failure:sniff:

Wow 3.8 and low 80s on TEAS isn't good enough anymore? I am sorry your going through this...

I know your not interested in getting into ADN programs, but look, at least you have a license. I mean I know the BSN is coveted but there are still a lot of community hospitals that still hire ADN people, including mine. We just hired a couple of RNs that just graduated from Mt. Sac. If you are in a hurry or financially unable to pay for out of state then you could do ADN. Do not be picky!

As for other programs. You can apply to ALL BSN programs up and down the state. It sounds like you only applied to few. You can try for spring, but be careful, if you read the last few pages on this thread, it seems like the budget is taking a nose dive.

So maybe you should try out of state. But if you are worried about private being expensive, then the move, fees and stuff will add up if you go out of state! Once you get your license out of state, have fun moving back here. We are already having too many RN applicants, regardless of degree that are CA licensed. You may have to take extra classes to get licensed here, again depending on the state you came from.

All and all, do not give up if this is what you really want to do. But do not be picky either. If you absolutely can't get into a BSN program then either do ADN or finish a Bachelors and do a ABSN program. Beggers can't be choosers.

Also I would recommend getting some sort of hospital experience while you wait. Maybe do a CNA course or EMT. Some programs give extra points to people that have healthcare experience and it will help you once you are in the classes.

Good luck!

What is up with this weather?

I LOVE IT!

Thank God I am off tonight! Wheeeeeeeeeee

yeah, i agree with dark. I think you need to do more research on what getting an ADN will mean for you before you write it off completely- remember that there are ppl in ADN programs with better scores than you.

Lots of ADN programs are in great standing with local hospitals and the students are often among the first to be hired.

@Dark I know you're a CNA and I was thinking of doing a CNA program if i dont get in for fall. I am done with all of my classes so i'll have my summer and fall completely free. How many classes/units did you have to take before getting your licence? Can it be done in a semester? I was thinking it could be like a weekend/summer job during nursing school.

I know you stated you were not interested in private schools, but my sister-in-law's sister went to National University in San Diego and got her BSN. Her sister said it was a great program. One of her professors use to teach at SDSU. The professor said she felt the program was better than SDSU's program. The tutiton is about 50k (about 20k more than CSLUB,) but much lower than Westcoast university which is over 100k. You may want to check it out. Good luck!

msxdbsk, I understand how you are feeling, I am in the same boat as you are. I have been looking at other schools that are open for spring admission like CSU channel islands. You have great stats and I think you should try to take the TEAS test again to get a higher score and improve your chances into getting into spring admission. Because of the budget cuts, I think most CSUs will be closed for spring admission but we have not heard officially from the nursing schools yet so I still have little hope. Other nursing schools that are open for spring admission is CSU Fresno, San bernardino, and Stanislaus. Applications are due around august so you still have time to retake the TEAS and apply!

Don't get discouraged and don't give up!

Yes I dont know why people are so against ADN programs. Everyone takes the same test. And some are harder to get into than BSN programs! More education is always better but if it doesn't happen, then it doesn't happen!

Anywho... I would do a CNA class in the summer if you can.

I took the CNA class at my CC I attend. It was cheap. Just the cost of tuition, uniforms, supplies and stuff.

You only take one class and at my CC, it was 5 units. If you take it in the semester, its 8 weeks and you meet 3 days a week. If you take it in the summer, its 6 weeks and you meet 4 days a week. I took mine in fall. Class was 7am to around 1pm. Post conference sometimes went over.

I highly encourage anyone who thinks that they are in the alternate list to never give their hopes up. Not everyone has CSULB as their first choice for transfer.

I, for one, was invited to the interviews held last month but I also found out (just yesterday) that I was accepted to UCI for their Nursing Science degree; I am also anticipating a response from UCLA SON by the end of this month.

Even if I get accepted to CSULB, I am highly likely consider the UC's because they have their OWN hospitals, hence, it will be easier for me to be employed at their respective campus hospitals after graduating. The only downside for me though are their higher tuition fees and that I also have to consider living at/near their campuses. I practically live 20 mins away from CSULB so its a bummer!

BTW, I was from the earliest interview time, I was the guy with the blue polo shirt and grey slacks!

Yay one person may bump me up the alternates list! Whooooooooooo

lol, congrats on getting UCI. They are good, If I was smart enough I would have applied to the UCs.

I hope you get into UCLA!

Congrats! I didn't apply to any UC's too. I looked at them and saw they required more pre-reqs than the cal state route and was like NOOOO WAYY no more pre-reqs. I would love to go to UCLA though, very nice campus :)

congrats
