CSU San Marcos ABSN Fall 2013

U.S.A. California

Hi fellow pre-nursing students!

I'd like to start a thread to those applying or have already applied to the ABSN program for Fall 2013 (Temecula/San Marcos locations)

I personally have not applied yet. I still have Anatomy and Microbiology in progress this Spring semester and will be completing Physiology during Summer. I'd like to apply soon, but quite hesitant since I still have quite a number of courses IP.

I will be contacting an advisor within this week and will definitely update this thread with further information. It might be too early to say, but good luck to all of us!

The three classes you listed are upper division GE classes. SOC 303 is in the "Support courses required to graduate" section of the pre-admission advising worksheet. It's in the same category as classes like "intro to psychology" and "intro to sociology", which are lower-division classes. I'm basing this all on my pre-admission advising worksheet from fall 2010, so I don't have the most recent information though.

I know SOC 303 is required for the traditional BSN (as per this link: Non-NURS Degree Requirements ). However, it's not listed on the ABSN page: Additional Requirements . Just wondering what's the story on SOC 303.

SOC 303 showed up on the assist.org articulation with the community college I attend but it isn't listed on the ABSN website under "CSU Upper-Division GE Requirements." But I think they decided to remove it as an upper div GE requirement recently. I called one of the advisors about it and she said it wasn't required anymore; just BIOL 323, PHIL 345, and ANTH 301. And they never mentioned SOC 303 in the ABSN information session. I want to think it's because students have probably taken a sociology class at least once when they were earning the first bachelor's degree.

Specializes in Informatics / Trauma / Hospice / Immunology.

Before I applied, I couldn't figure out if they specifically wanted Soc 303 or not, so I took it at CSUSM. They ended up just counting a prior Intro to Sociology class for that requirement so I didn't need Soc 303 after all.

The BIOL 323, PHIL 345, and ANTH 301 classes are unique in that they are actually part of the nursing program itself (1st semester). The school is very picky about these classes. The only way to get out of taking them is having already taken the exact same class at CSUSM. Two people in my cohort had planned ahead and taken these classes at CSUSM before applying to the ABSN program, so they were able to sit out the first semester. Others were frustrated by they had taken the exact same class elsewhere or had an entire bachelors degree in the subject but had to take the class anyway.

I just paid for my intent to enroll for Spring 2014 early this week, so when should I expect my packet to come in the mail? I tried calling extended learning, but they transferred me to my advisor's voicemail.

Also, for those who were recently admitted to Spring '14 or those who've applied, here's a seperate thread that ehlehnah made: https://allnurses.com/california-state-nursing/csu-san-marcos-843778.html#post7428005

@laikaluna After paying my Intent to Enroll, I received my packet in the mail after about 1-2 weeks. I got an email with information about doing the initial background check 4 days after the deadline to submit the Intent to Enroll. The deadline to put in the order for the background order is 1 week after receiving that email. Almost a week after that, I got an email from one of the advisers to apply to the university on CSUMentor.

Also keep in mind that I got my conditional admission letter 6 weeks prior to the start of the semester. Hope this helps as far as giving you an estimated timeline.

So I know the program is 2 years, but does anyone have any clue as to when our "breaks" are? Im just trying to get a feel for if we go "straight through", or if we have 1-2 weeks after the end of each semester. If anyone knows anything about the ABSN school schedule, I would love to hear it :) thanks!!

Howdy Fellow Aggie!!!! Have you heard any news from San Marcos yet? I applied earlier this year (may 2013) and i just got an acceptance email for their Spring Cohort!

Can anyone tell me if the school has shared if there's a difference in clinical locations for Temecula/San Marcos or if they share the same sites? I've been dead set on San Marcos but am willing to consider Temecula if I know that they don't just do clinicals at Riverside locations. Thanks!

Hello and Congrats @laikaluna and @MJfutureRN !!!!! Ive been accepted into the SP2014 Cohort and i too am in Sacramento!!!! (natomas) Cant wait for January and to meet y'all!!!!!

I think cohorts in San Marcos are assigned more within SD County (someone correct me if I'm wrong since I'm part of a Temecula cohort). Cohorts in Temecula can have clinical assignments in SD County but can be as north as Hemet, within the southwest region of Riverside County. It just depends on what clinical sites are available and given by the Nursing Consortium.
