CSU Los Angeles School of Nursing (CSULA Fall 2012)

U.S.A. California

Hello,

I thought I'd make this thread for the new application group... even though it's a bit late since we have to all apply soon!

Anyway! I want to apply for the Fall 2012 term but I had some questions. I am an current CSULA student that transferred to CSULA in Fall 2010. I'm a Psychology major but am applying for Fall 2012 Nursing. I haven't taken my TEAS yet, but I'll be taking that on Friday (!!), so I'm very nervous about that.

That said, this is my first question:

I've been getting mixed info from different people. When I visited the Academic Advising Office last Spring (2011), the adviser told me that as long as I did not graduate from CSULA BEFORE I graduated, I could apply to the SON as a BSN applicant. I called SON to see if I could even apply for the ELM program and they told me that as far as they knew, I could not because I did not have my Bachelor's Degree yet.

So right now, I have approximately 2 quarters left in order to finish my Psychology major, approximately 6~8 classes. Ideally, I could finish by Spring 2012, but depending on my other workloads, I could push it back to Fall 2012. The problem is that I'm not allowed to graduate if I want to go into the basic program so I can't apply for graduation just yet. But IF I don't get into the BSN program, then I have to wait another two quarters after May or June or whenever they send out acceptances in order to officially graduate.

So I went to go and talk to my adviser about graduation and if I should even bother applying for Spring 2012 graduation and she tells me that no, I'm not allowed to apply for a BSN but I can go for the ELM program.

Does anyone know which is true? The CSULA advisers tell me that I can't apply for the Basic program but I can apply for ELM while the SON says that I can't apply for ELM because I don't have my Bachelor's degree yet and I should apply for the BSN program. Other graduate schools like APU and UCLA have also told me the same thing - without a Bachelor's, I cannot get apply for the ELM program at their school.

Thank you~

Aren't the official documents like transcripts to the university due after we find out whether or not we get into the nursing program? I remember seeing some date in June or July in the student login page. So can't we wait to order them before sending in the transcripts to admissions? I haven't sent any to the admissions office for schools I've applied to except sfsu since the school of nursing shares the transcript with undergrad admissions.

See SFSU is good, they actually SHARE information! How nice? I wish all schools did. 9 times out of 10 the admission people have no clue about what the nursing programs do and vice versa!

Well I ALWAYS update the universities with and updated grades/classes in progress. Maybe you do have to wait until June? I dont know but whenever I have transfered (to Cal Poly Pomona and to CSULA) I ALWAYS updated after every semester! If you want to take a chance and dont, then thats fine, I guess. I personally would not take that chance especially being how impacted each and every university and college is right now. Oh and as I said before, especially if your overall GPA raises.

I dont know about you, but I will update the universities and programs after winter intersession and after spring semester (well I am taking a 6 week class in spring so I can get my final, FINAL transcripts sooner).

As I said, it is up to you, but I am not going to take the chance though! My GPA is still raising with every A I get now and so I could use that to my advantage. Maybe it shows you want to attend more?

The only school that hasnt asked for transcripts is CSULB and that is pretty dumb, especially if people lie on their university application about their GPA or missing the "golden four." Only way to verify a application is to compare the information put forth on the transcripts but if you dont want transcripts then whatever I guess.

Hmm, I haven't sent any transcripts at all to the admissions office though. I'm confused, are we supposed to send one transcript both to the admissions office and one to the school of nursing? I only sent my Fall 2011 grades to the school of nursing, and 0 transcripts to admissions

Oh well update the university! They should be in the 'in' like the program.Call them. I'm pretty sure.

DarkBluePhoenix- my prerequisite gpa is 3.86 and my overall gpa is 3.89. I got 98 in english and 86 in reading on the TEAS and have healthcare experience (CNA). So I have 27 points. I'm nervous because I applied to LA county SON this spring and was not accepted on a technicality. So even though I've spoken with someone with CSULA's son, I still worry about the same thing hapenning. Has everyone that is a transfer signed on to GET? On my page it has a to do list and they told me to send my final transcripts including spring grades by July 13, 2012. So I haven't sent mine yet.

I feel like a dork. How do I make separate paragraphs?

27 points is a really good score! You will surely get in :) I logged in GET too and saw that deadline, so until now I didn't send any in. But I was reading on this site CSULA Deadlines and was curious if we have to send the transcripts up to date by Feb 15, 2012 and then send in our Spring 2012 transcript on July 13.

And you make separate paragraphs by pressing enter :D

wow that is an awesome score! you will get in..just keep updating everyone and you be fine! :)

wow got denied on a technicality that sucks, you file and incomplete app or something? sounds like my CSULB problem

well i dont think you have anything to worry about. email the program coordinators at CSULA to make sure they got everything and that way you dont get denied for a technical reason!

wow I am up against some major competition! i thought my 23 points was awesome but looks like this years application pool is going to be the best yet!

good luck guys!

Hmm, I can't seem to make separate paragraphs. Must be because I'm posting from my phone.Anyway, my problem arose because I was living in another state for a while and began my prereqs there before I moved back to CA. I took my Anat and physio there and the courses are A&P I and A&P II. When I spoke to County's dean, she told me that the classes have to be ALL anatomy one term and ALL physiology the next term. So even though the courses are equivalent and even state in the course description that they are for people applying to nursing, I was denied. I probably could have fought them, but I was so turned off by the whole thing that I figured it probably happened for a reason. I turned my attention towards better things and applied to CSULA, where I would much rather attend anyway!

Oh wow. That is weird. So instead of taking an anatomy class then the next semester taking a physiology class you did a&p1 and a&p2.I see. Most schools I see have the courses separate like I mentioned prior. I took human anatomy and human physiology. No combo classes. Other states, I noticed, do they way you did. Odd.Anywho the rule for schools 99.9% of the time is that if you do decide to take a combo class like you did, then it HAS TO BE at the same school. Did you take both at the same school? If so, which I bet you did, then you should be fine. Did you try contacting a consoler at CSULA to certify the courses you took out of state are ok? I would check, but if you haven't been denied yet then I'm assuming its ok. CSULA sends out denials quick. My friend got a disqualifying letter like a week after the application for repeating a pre req twice.

Wait I have a question.. What is a &p 1 and 2. Is 1 anatomy and physiology lecture combined and 2 is anatomy and physiology lab combined? I might be in a similar predicament. I took Anatomy lecture and lab at one school and physiology lecture and lab at another. I took the classes that SON wants but will I be ok even though I took them at dif schools? And what is GET?

No a&p1 are anatomy and physiology combined just half the material. A&p2 is the other half of material. If you took a&p1 & a&p2 at two different schools, now that's a problem! But if you haven't gotten denied yet then I wouldn't worry about it too much. When in doubt, contact the program coordinator
