Compton college has low passing rates. should i be worried?

U.S.A. California

number of ppl who took the nclex test, percentage of ppl that passed. these numbers are from the board of registered nursing site:

18 72.22%, 20 35.00%, 19 42.11%, 17 52.94%, 34 85.29%

i want to apply to this school, but their passing rates are awfully low and im wondering if it's bc they have a poor nursing program. if i graduate from this school, will i be able to pass the nclex test? will i be ready to properly function as a nurse? why the heck are their numbers so low? :stone

I wouldn't be too worried, considering the highly competitive nature of nursing school admissions in Southern California. My main focus would be to gain admission into any program in the area that accepted me. Remember that this school is located in an area that has many first-generation college students who hail from poor, undereducated, and working-class families, which sometimes translates into a lack of academic preparation for college.

In addition, the NCLEX is a highly personalized experience. While it is easy to blame your instructor if you fail, the vast majority of NCLEX preparation rests squarely on the individual student.

compton is a dangerous place, right? i just found out!

I think Compton's reputation for being dangerous is highly overinflated.

I grew up in South Los Angeles...Compton to be exact and I think anywhere can be a dangerous place!! don't worry about the pass rates!!! I passed the nclexrn on my first try! :)Focus on yourself! Start looking at Nclex review books asap so you can know how the test is and start to critically think!!! Good luck :)

sorry and no offense but everyone's telling me to not go to compton, even for school :stone

Hope you can get into the NS of your choice...I grew up in Compton and went to a private school to get my BSN so I wouldn't blame u...

It is your choice.

I have worked with excellent RNs and LVNs who attended Compton College.

Check the safety record of the school. Do they have security that keeps people out who have no reason to be there?

I don't think a school with poor pass rates would be my first choice unless I were VERY good at taking tests.

Many wonderful people live in Compton but I think gang violence is prevalent there too. OK IF the school, parking included, is secure.

I've made up my mind - no Compton college for me. Thank you for taking the time to give me your insights, I really appreciated them all! :redbeathe
