Color coded scrubs?

Hi everyone..

I've heard that many hospitals in both northern and southern California, are utilizing color coded scrubs for their nurses. Is this true?

I do not know about California, but I know of one hospital in KY and the hospitals I have worked at in IN do. Nurses in my hospital must wear white pants. The tops are your choice, but the pants must be white. Techs wear teal. OT/PT wear beige pants. Respiratory wears green, etc..

Truthfully, I think it's stupid. WE know what it means, but the patients do not. The doctors don't pay attention either and will try to give orders to a tech in teal scrubs. And white pants suck. They really do. Esp during that time of the month. I wish we would change our policy to white scrub TOPS instead of pants :)

I know when I worked at Cornell NY Presbyterian during school, they thought the idea was great. It was always confusing to the patients and that is who matters the most. I really don't think it matters. I personally, HATED wearing white scrub bottoms during school and was sooo happy that I could veer away from them after I graduated!!

At our hospital, nursing staff wears navy blue or white or a combination of both (solid colors or solid w/a small amount of piping in the other color). CNA's wear green or green and white (but not all white) and other depts. have their own colors. Our patients seem to appreciate being able to tell who the nurses are. Some of the nurses are not crazy about it, but I feel that if it benefits our patients, I don't mind wearing them.
