California-bay area hopeful

Hello I just wanted to start a thread for students in the bay area, or for bay area hopefuls.

I am currently a student at a community college in santa clara county. I'm in year #2 of college pre reqs for nursing. I am not going full time so I won't be done for another 1.5yrs or so.

I am also working full time. I have a full family with a husband, boys in sports, & a busy daughter. The point in mentioning this is to explain why I'm not full time in school.

I like coming on here and reading posts of other peoples journey. It helps sometimes to read about other people's struggles, & accomplishments. I like to read how others juggle their lives.

Becoming a nurse is not an easy road, but it sure is eventful. I haven't even experienced the most challenging part.

Congrats to all that have chosen this journey. Let's support & encourage each other!

I'd like to read other people's experiences in becoming a nurse here in the bay area, while attending community college here in the bay area. ... Thank you!

Specializes in L&D, infusion, urology.

Just be forewarned that the SF Bay Area is one of the toughest markets in the US, especially for new grads. I live in the Bay Area, and I have extensive healthcare experience prior to nursing school, and I am having to apply to hospitals 5+ hours from home to try to get hospital experience. I'm working some random agency jobs in the meantime, but the work is sporadic.

I just graduated from a CSU in the area with my BSN. I did all of my prereqs at community colleges.

You are awesome for balancing all of those things! Personally, it took me 3 years at my school (SJSU) to get through all of my pre-reqs, although one of those years was spent taking classes for another major due to the science classes being constantly waitlisted. I am now applying to SJSU for spring start. My gpa is no where near competitive, but I'm hoping that my teas score will give me the extra boost. Good luck to you on your journey!

Thank you! Good luck on your application.

Balancing it all hasn't been easy. However, I am motivated & dedicated. ***fingers crossed I never loose that. Ha.

SJSU huh... good for you! I know a few people that have tried getting into their RN program without sucess. I've been reading it's extremely difficult to get in. Need a 4.0 gpa & a high grade on the TEAS.

Best of luck to you as well.
