U.S.A. California

HELLO EVERYONE:D

Has anyone out there ever worked for KAISER in San Diego? I mean any of the clinics, or The Hospital at ZION or VANDEVER? I am thinking about applying to their NEW GRAD PROGRAM. Has anyone gone through their New Grad Program, or ever worked for them in any capacity? If so, Please let me know how it is to work for them, as well as Rate of Pay, Working Conditions, Benefits, Pt Load, ETC. I will be attending a Job Fair here in San Diego tomorrow. If you have ever worked in any of their clinics, Please let me know. Please Be Honest, as your Input will be Greatly Appreciated. THANKS IN ADVANCE!:yeah:

I am a little familiar with Kasier. I am a nursing student and some of my classmates have done rotations there but I have not yet. You will hear mixed things about Kaiser. The pay is excellent and so are the benefits, the 1st or 2nd best in the entire county (Naval Balboa may be higher pay). Kaiser is very well known for their excellent pay and benefits. I know on Med-Surg they have a 4:1 ratio and no CNA's, so that means total patient care. Hope that help.

kaiser is supposed to have really great new grad pay (i've heard $32/hour, but i don't know for sure) but i didn't like my clinical rotations there & i haven't heard good things about their new grad program.

puresass,

thanks for your reply. could you please be more specific about what you have heard regarding the working conditions at kaiser, as well as their new grad program? i interviewed for med/surg on 5 west. i was told that there was a lack of teamwork as well as a heavy workload by the manager. i am still curious regarding other's opinions as well. please send me a private message . i would love to hear from you. thanks in advance.

hello portobello

the only new grad programs that were available when i applied in april was sharp & kaiser. children's hospital & ucsd filled up very quickly & were not accepting any more new grads. i interviewed wth both sharp & kaiser & got as many opinions as i possibly could. i heard many positive things regarding sharp, as well as my experience with them during my interview & physical. i did not get much positive feedback regarding kaiser. the manager told me upfront that there was a high turnover rate with nurses, due to the heavy workload, lack of teamwork, etc. the good part was that kaiser pays more, but then they take out $95 a month in union dues, because it is a union hospital. the pay then equals out to what sharp pays. kaiser benefits start on the 1st day of work, & with sharp it is 30 days. i have also heard from many that kaiser will "toss new grads to the wind" & expect them to know & do everything. this came from many reliable sources. that is not how i want to start out. you could try them as well. good luck in your search.

thanks u so much msmorningglory. i really appreciate all the info that u posted. Kaiser is not a good idea anymore for me. we all work hard to get our license. we really don't want to risk it for that... again thanks so much for the info that really help!:tku:

We ask that one used proper English here and not abbreviations or text messaging. There are many foreign nurses that use this bulletin board and we want them to get things right when they need to take their exams.

You would not use it in a patient's chart, so please do not use it here.

Thanks for your understanding on this.
