Anyone applying to New Grad programs in San Diego? & anyone Going to the Career fair?

Hi!

Has anyone applied for any new grad programs?

I graduated in Hawaii, so I am not familiar with where the new grad programs are. I found two, but the information on their websites was incomplete and when calling I can never seem to get a hold of anyone.

Also, is anyone going to the career fair this Friday? I have never been to one so I am not sure what to expect. I am really hoping it will get me some good connections to get a job!

Thanks!!:nuke:

I signed up for the career fair in San Diego, but I won't be attending. Let me know how it goes since I may attend the one in Orange County later. Good luck though. Check my website for new grad programs. I do a big update on Mondays and periodically throughout the week. There hasn't been many new grad programs available because most start in early summer.

which career fair are you talking about?

nevermind, I found it.

UCSD is taking applications for their October program...apply ASAP, they close after they have enough applications (and they always do have a lot...)

so how was that career fair? I wasnt able to go...

so how was that career fair? i wasnt able to go...

to be honest...it was very disheartening. new grads are at a serious disadvantage. i have been so depressed since i went. all but one hospital said that they either will not hire new grads (no money to do so) or are only accepting 5-7 new grads from 800+ applicants. our resumes have to be stellar. i just moved here and am amazed at how cut throat the competition is. one of the recruiters told me we have to show on the resume the accomplishments we made during nursing school that are not clinical related......who had time to do that!! it is almost like they wanted us to be working as a lpn or cna our last semester.

so, from what i gathered you need to have had...

#1 -clinicals at the hospital you were applying for

#2 completed an externship, internship or preceptorship at that hospital

#3 bsn is a plus

#4 hours (not just a couple) of volunteer work at that hospital

#5 a thick portfolio

#6 have some type of contact within the hospital

not being from here, i don't know anyone. i am going to go volunteer somewhere. i just want to be a nurse. i have been working hard for so long for it. just when i thought it was finger length away another mountain to climb has formed. i got through nursing school i will get through this!!!!!

man, Im glad I didnt go then. I already feel discouraged, and Im going to nursing school around here! I graduate in December, I already know that Radys will not have a residency in jan/feb 2010 (for like the first time in a long time).. im soo bummed. Im so nervous about not getting a job!!!

Did they say they werent hiring new grads this year? What about Jan/Feb of 2010??

Sorry you had a bad experience, but its a reality a lot of us have to face right now. It is a total bummer, to say the least.

any more thought from anyone ? :(
