American university of health sciences (Auhs)

Hi Everyone,

Please, does anyone know or heard anything about AUHS school of nursing? I'm thinking about applying to their program but still have a little concerns.

firstly: they are not WASC accredited, only ACICS . i dont know whether this will affect the acceptability of their BSN degree by other public universities? they are approved by the California board of registered nursing

secondly: they dont have their CCNE accrediation yet, they have a scheduled site evaluation by the CCNE Oct'11, will having a CCNE accrdt. help with the reputation and acceptance of their BSN degree by other universities, if one decides to pursue an MSN?

thirdly: they are for-profit school, so i dont really know how employers will perceive a BSN from a for-profit school? any bias?

and finally, the cost of the program is like 70-80K for 2.5 years, is the price worth it?

kinda confused :crying2:

thanks:)

Hello. I recently went in to check out the school for their program. Although, I was delighted at first; my enthusiasm has drastically changed. I feel very disappointed for my follow ups with this school and so unhappy of the reviews I just read online. I haven't viewed anything positive regarding reviews of this school. I also do not see it listed on the "Better Business Bureau." I have found several prospect students who have made negative comments that the school has taken a lot of their money and refuses to refund and they didn't even start the first day of orientation. Myself and other prospects were very pressured to get paperwork in immediately. Resume/work history, references (2), and transcripts. Also, $75. I am not feeling comfortable with proceeding with this school at all. My last meeting was not a good one. I felt a horrible feeling. I am thinking of requesting for a refund and if this is not honored with my other personal submission, I may follow suit with the other prospects who lost out of $1,000 or more.

I am extremely concerned about the accreditation and LACK of or doesn't have. I am starting to think if this is a SCAM/fraudulent school that takes your money and that's it. I don't want to fall into that.

i checked their NCLEX passrate on CA RN website Board of Registered Nursing - NCLEX Pass Rates and its around 90.1%. when you went for the info, were you told the actual cost of attendance? i heard its around 75-80K but they seem somewhat reluctant to say the actual cost of their program. did you apply to other programs as well? i think they said the $75 is non-refundable.

** Looks like I am mistaken. Schools would not be listed under the Better Business Bureau. Thank you to the person on All Nurses who responded. However, what resources can you utilize to check the validity and reputation of a private nursing school?**

AUHS has many indications of being very shady.

I was relayed that tuition is $30,000 per year and that EACH unit you take with them is $550 or more? It's insane. I recently followed up with someone who went there and she had to get various loans and at the end of it all, the school cost a lot more than $100,000!! Don't be scammed. BEWARE. If they cannot tell you and are reluctant, go with your instincts. I did and I am NOT pursuing.

I was giving a rough estimate. Yours i accurate. But, come on $8 difference. Anyway, you figure it out. Is it worth all that $$$$$? Seroiusly!

Hello,

I went to this school and graduated from this school as well. I got stuck because I already paid so much after I found out that their accreditation was not good. No CCNE, no WASC accrediation. Although the school is approved by the BRN I really think that you should all look for other options. The school has been very unfair to all the students and have been very disorganized. I suggest you guys interview any of the nursing students that are there when you visit. They could probably give you a much better idea of how the school is. Goodluck in finding a good nursing school!

Hi Haley1007,

can you tell me more about the school, im not able to ask current student cause i really didnt see any student outside the times i visited the school.

" I already paid so much "

how much did you pay overall? if you took out loans, did they have more loan options?

"The school has been very unfair to all the students and have been very disorganized"

can you explain more?

did you employer(if you are working) care much about the degree from the school since its a for-profit school?

about the CCNE, they say that they have an on site evaluation in oct 2011, but i dont see their name on the new applicant list on the CCNE site. CCNE COUNTDOWN

overall, how did you like the program?

thanks, any input will be very much appreciated:)

Have u already done ur interviews,I been thinking about attending this school but have heard so many bad things regarding the program, how much did u have to put down to start? and what stage of the precess are u in? thanks

yea, im done with the interviews. the only money i have paid so far is the $75 application fee. have you done yours?

Hello mamia,

I paid around 80K. I took out only how much I needed for the first two semester, I used Sallie Mae. The next semester, I got denied with Sallie Mae! I was so upset as I didn't know if I'm able to continue. They have very limited number of Third party private lender. And because you have to loaning quite a bit of money, I think you have to really have a good credit score or a co-signer that has one. I ended up borrowing all of the amount I needed/or the maximum the lended would allow for my next semester to avoid having to go through it again.

When it comes to their disorganization, e.g. they have cost the students money for requiring the wrong textbook that professors needed, professors have asked us to purchase books that were never used, administration have failed to give us accurate information about their accreditation, have made mistake on our files that led us to paying more due to overlooked pre-requisites needed, professors that would quit in the middle of the quarter (this happened twice to us), high turnover rates of administration and professors... so much more, I could go on and on....

I'm not working yet and is currently looking... It could be a factor why I'm still unemployed! :(

CCNE?! If they did indeed apply... I'm doubtful they'll get it...

Overall, I think you shouldn't expect so much from the school if you decide to study there. I've had a few professors that were very good and had good intentions, that made a big difference. I'm happy just to be out of there... It was hell... I'm never the type of person who has anything I regret in life... this made it through the cut... I regret having made the decision to come here in the first place...and not having the courage to leave... After my first semester I already borrowed about 10K... I figured, how am i going to pay for this much and other nursing schools will not take me in right away (knowing there is a 3 year waiting list in some), I decided to stay.... I wish I didn't but I didn't have much of a choice.
