I'm thinking of applying for a job in Yuma. Can anyone tell me what the area is really like? I lived in Phoenix for several years and enjoyed it as well as Tucson. If I get offered a job there it would be a huge move for me, one I hadn't planned on doing again. Any help would be appreciated.:wink2:

Hot. Dry.

(and I'm a native)

I'd reconsider and choose Phx.

I haven't heard much good about Yuma which is strange. I have applied for a few jobs in Phoenix, but most seem to not be hiring new grads right now.

I've thought about moving to Yuma to work there if the new grad job market is much worse when I graduate in a year. Yuma Regional Medical Center is not bad at all - in fact from what I've seen of the hospital, it's quite alright.

It's the area, Yuma, that I'm not fond of. But you gotta do what you gotta do!

Another thing about Yuma Regional Medical Center. The Federal government declared Yuma a critical shortage area for healthcare workers. This means if you go through a bunch of hoops and apply, you may be able to get student loans forgiven for working there.

REALLLY, hmmmm. If that really is the case, I will definately have to give it a shot if only for the student loan forgiveness. My hometown is the definition of boring, I find it hard to believe anywhere else can be as boring as this place is LOL.

I had an interview relatively local to me, but I'll keep the YRMC option open as well as a few others I might have.

I applied online to Yuma. I'm from New Jersey and no one is hiring new grads here. its frustrating. Tons of hospitals have closed and the ones that are open have stopped their new grad programs and are only hiring experienced nurses. I'm willing to relocate to anywhere to find a new grad position. I'm young and single, so i dont have any real attachments. I just need my 1-2 year experience and i would probably move back.

That's what I'm considering doing regardless of where I end up, unless I end up really liking the area. Since I'm hoping for NICU I was told to check back in Jan. Well, its now January :-)

What would be really nice. If all the places I've applied to over the past month actually called me back/returned calls.
