What do you do for 2 years?

Hi, I'm new here. I have been thinking about going back to school and going in to nursing for quite some time, and finally took the plunge. I had an appointment with an advisor for nursing through Chandler-Gilbert CC, and I've sent away for trasnscripts to see what will transfer and what won't.

The advisor said that there is a 2 year wait list, which I was already aware of. This is fine with me since I'm still waiting on getting one more youngin' in to school. Anwyays, I was suprised when she said everyone has to finish their pre-requsits before they can apply. It makes alot more sense to me to apply and then work on pre-reqs, while waiting. So what do you do while you wait? Are there more classes you can take?

I'd like to hear everyone's experience.

I plan on taking the co-reqs that I haven't done yet (BIO 202, 205).

I'm still finishing up my pre-reqs & haven't even applied yet.

I am on the waiting list now (have been waiting since June 2007)

I recommend taking what the co-reqs and I really recommend taking a Medical Terminology class and Human Pathophysiology!

Also, if I would have done it differently, I would have gotten a job at a hospital that works with the MCCDNP which would get you a spot in the nursing program sooner. (Like JCL and Scottsdale Healthcare)

OMG, I am a dork. :selfbonk: I was looking at all the courses, "pre" and "co" and thinking they were pre-reqs. I see there are few co-reqs (and other classes, thanks AZSamantha) to to take while waiting for entry. I wonder if it's possible to do course work in order to become a nursing assistent or something along the way. Besides putting Band-Aids on boo-boos, I'm not doing anything even remotly medical.

Several of the community colleges offer the cna training. That may be useful to you while you wait. It will definately give you a taste of life in the healthcare field. In fact, I strongly recommend that route. There are those who swear they want to become a nurse, and then get into a healthcare program like a cna program or medical assisting, and realize healthcare in that setting is NOT at all what they want to do. For some, that may be the exact opposite! But, if you are not in healthcare and never have been, I say do the CNA while you wait....
