UA MEPN 2018

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hey everyone! I know the application deadline is a ways off, but I just wanted to get a forum started for those of us who plan on applying to the MEPN program for 2018! I have all my prerequisites finished and just have to take the HESI. I already took the TEAS for some other schools and scored very well, so I'm not too concerned about HESI as I hear it is a much easier exam without any science content required by UA. Has anyone already taken it? What did you think and how did you prepare? My last 60 units GPA is a 3.80 and my prerequisite GPA is a 3.96. I'm a little nervous about the interview as I have heard in the past it is very short- about ten minutes of talking time. I'll have to figure out how to eloquently but succinctly express my preparation for nursing school and interest in the field. Good luck everyone!!

Hi there!

I was hoping that someone could tell me if my chances are decent of getting into UA's MEPN program with a Pre-req GPA of 3.50, Last 60 GPA of 3.64. I haven't taken the HESI yet, but I think I will do okay. I got a 90.7% on my TEAS exam. Any help would be awesome!!!

Thank you!

Hi there!

Thank you!

I talked to their office today & asked about previous years statistics, maybe they will help you:

To be competitive, averages are:

Prereq GPA - 3.5

Last 60 credits GPA - 3.5

Hesi A2 - 90-94

I took the Hesi A2 in Jan '15 & the TEAS Aug '17. On both I scored very high in Math with minimal studying (Hesi = 100%, TEAS = 94%). My Hesi, with only 4-days of studying was an 88 and my TEAS with NO studying, at all, was an 80. My PreReq GPA averages about a 3.75.

My recommendation is to use the TEAS as a guideline for the section(s), you need to concentrate on studying. Personally, I think the TEAS was a bit more difficult that the HESI A2.

Good Luck!

Hi! I graduated in August and was a member of the 2016 cohort. A few things have changed for the cohorts after ours, as we did not have to take the HESI. However, we did the interview and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. You have an interview buddy and you switch off on who answers questions first. They tell you not to look at that person as competition, but rather, as a future classmate. Both myself and my partner got in, but my partner chose to go back home to a program in California instead.

I saw the comment made about the DNP program and "guaranteed acceptance" if you have above a 3.5. I don't know if that is something that has changed with this year, but I had a friend apply and she was not accepted and had well above a 3.5 and was very active with community service and did great in clinicals. She was told that they didn't even look at her application. So take that for what it is.

There were some things I didn't like about the program, but overall, I liked it. I felt prepared to take the NCLEX (which I just did yesterday) and have two job offers, one of which is in my specialty of choice. I had another interview two weeks ago and I am waiting to hear on that that one. Every manager I have talked to has had a high opinion of the program and loves hiring MEPN grads, so I am glad for that.

You mentioned that "there were some things [you] didn't like about the program". Although, you had an overall positive experience, would you mind sharing more on what you were less that enthusiastic about?

Did you feel there was enough clinical experience during the program? A few people I talked to said that they think MEPN grads overall have less clinical experience and aren't as prepared as, say, a CEP grad in that respect. Seemed to be an issue of having enough time during the program to practice as you would in a longer program... I hadn't considered that but heard it twice recently so it's just something I'm wondering now.

CEP? I apologize, I'm not familiar with the acronym. I felt like I had plenty of hours. As someone stated earlier, the first three semesters, when you have clinicals, they are typically twice a week and are twelves, with the exception of diverse settings during semester 3 which is based on wherever you are. In fourth semester, I did three twelves back to back for six weeks in the hospital and three weeks in community health. I liked all of my clinical instructors and felt supported by them (though this is not true for everyone in the program). I really started understanding things better in fourth semester, like it was all coming together. So I would say no, I never felt like I "didn't have enough time" to learn skills and practice them. We had more than enough skills lab time, and honestly, what your mentor nurse is willing to let you do would be more of a factor for me than time spent.

Sometimes I felt like there was a little disorganization, which bothers me because I am very type A. Additionally, some faculty were more supportive than others. I also had more than a few papers that took a month or more to get a grade. Really, that's all I'm comfortable saying openly on the forum, but you're free to PM me.

Overall, the experience was positive for me, but it wasn't without its flaws.

Oh sorry, CEP is a concurrent enrollment program with Pima CC for an ADN along with a university for a BSN, like ASU or NAU. GCU also apparently now has a CEP with Pima CC to get a traditional MSN degree.

Anyway, thank you so much... very helpful info!

Hi everyone! Has anyone had trouble with the College of Nursing- Nursing Prerequisites section? I have inputted all of my prereqs and credit hours but after I save it, the credit hours don't save and go back to chem 1- 3 credit hours, chem 2- 3 credit hours, chem lab- 1 credit hour, etc.. anyone else have this problem? Or can the credit hours not be changed? Thank you!!!

I didn't have that problem that I can recall. Nate it was just a glitch?

I'm applying for 2018 Phoenix cohort. Both my GPAs are above 3.8 and HESI was 94.5. Are these stats are descent to get an interview? From what I'm reading it seems they will be but I'm still nervous! I called and they said Phoenix was a little less competitive than Tucson. Anyone else applying to Phoenix?

I am, also, applying to the Phoenix campus for the May '18 cohort. My advisor told me the average accepted HESI A2 score has been 90-92. I took it 2 years ago after studying only 4-days & managed an 88 (100 in Math section). Hoping this go around will be much improved since I will have more study time in.

Hi Everyone!

I just submitted my application last week and am very excited to hear back! Does anyone know if we are supposed to submit our finger print clearance now or do we submit it once we hear about interviews?
