Let's face it. Everyone is this group wants to be a nurse. I am one of them. I want to be a nurse so bad that I can taste it. Heres the problem I am facing just like you. If I go the traditional way, its going to take a lot of time just to do the prereqs. Then when you apply to the RN program, you have another issue. You probably have hundreds of other people applying thus your chances of getting in become silm. I know of a student who completed all the prereqs, gpa 3.8 and still has been passed over 3 times. To get to the topic, would u pay Apollo $43,000, Ethel Bauer $27,000, or would you consider another route.:uhoh3:

yes i would attend any school that i was accepted into at the right time. i would explore all of my available options first. there are so many different pathways to getting to that rn i would continue to do what is best for your situation which only you can make the best decision for. as we have seen on this list every program has its ups and downs but what is one person's dream is another's nightmare.

i'm sure there will be more responses and definitely explore this site it is chock full of information.

hey, ive been waiting since last october, i was provisional till last december so i missed jan, summer, and august placement, and just found out that i may miss jan 08 placement as well. i am keeping my faith, and if it doest come through this january 2008 than i will be seeking other options. idk.....where....but lets just say i will be doing my research, i didnt do a year and half of pre reqs to just have to do them again!

i agree. your prereqs should transfer over to any of the universities and ethel bauer. they would not make you redo them. with eb you would come in at block 2 or 3. asu and grand canyon have at least 3 classes more than th ccs of prereqs to apply. asu has expanded their program and has several entry options and grand canyon takes in twice a year. i am sure there will be some other options opening up in the new year also. my girlfriend has been waiting a year and a half on the community college list, she just enrolled in the unit clerk program at gateway just to do something while she waits and to shake off the cobwebs in her brain.:lol2:

Ok, here is the thing......$40K over time is what, a $200/month payment? Im guessing, but still, they give you like 20 years to pay that back. If in the meantime you are making $50K a year and up, it's really not alot of money when you break it down like that. If it means getting in and out, completing your goal of becomming a nurse, I say GO FOR IT!!! Im from Cali. and people there are waiting 3&4 years to get into a nursing program. Most do opt for vocational ADN programs and none of them are less than $40K....heck...the LPN programs are $40K...crazy! But they are paying that just so they can get through it. The only reason I have opted NOT to do an RN program through one of these schools is I'm afraid I wont pass the algebra/chemistry classes. Not to mention the workload and balancing my young family. Im opting to do my LPN through Maricopa Skills center and then down the road I will work toward mt RN or BSN. Anyways, my two cents....

i shared with you that i took my chem and algebra at esbn. my instructor who is also a nursing instructor did not want anyone to fail those courses. she worked very hard to get the concepts through to the fresh out of high schools kids and the more mature students that had not been in a classroom in neons. i commend her for doing a great job across the board. i am taking more courses through rio now in order to have my prereqs for everyone, because i am "still" deciding. any who, after this semester i will be able to apply to the universities or get in block 2 or 3 at esbn. my main issue is not having a break in my learning process so i am not struggling with foundational concepts that i learned or relearned a year ago.

there are always options. when are starting your lpn program? sorry to ask again.;)

Im set to start Oct. 19th. It's a one year program and then I will start working. I may possibly do the LPN-BSN through UOP or I will just finish my pre-req's and wait to get a spot at a MCC program. Not sure, only time will tell. The thing about the pre-req's that EBSN required were not the actual pre-req's for the program, they were pre-req's to the pre-req's. I really didn't want to spend that kind of money for that. I think if I get a erally godd teacher at say, GCC then I can focus and try to get through the math. We'll see either way. What classes are you taking at RIO right now????

My very personal and humble opinion:

I would pay either of the above. I am not in Arizona but am in a place (like many) that it is mandatory to sit in a waiting list and/or lottery number to get into a program.

I decided to go the private route which is triple any CC around-BUT it was worth it. I did my pre-req's and applied to the program that goes by a point scale. Points are awarded based on classes taken THERE so it was a plus because unless you took your courses there you had little points and slim chances to get in. I got in the first time I applied and recently graduated.

Also, I was lucky enough to find a wonderful job offer (in AZ) that helps with tuition reeimbursement so it was a win win deal for me.

I don't regret going the private route. It did cost much more but I am done, while my friends are either barely getting in or still waiting on a list. Thank God for Sallie Mae loans ;)

i'm taking psychology, communications and spanish. the spanish is something that isn't a prereq but with our demographics i feel that it would be in my best interest to be bilingual. you know what is interesting i thought about applying to south mountain community college's bilingual program just to get in earlier. my husband thinks i can do it, ( he minored in spanish in college, i only took it in high school ) and saying that it is on my options list. after this spanish class i will take spanish for health care.

in this nursing education market you have to be creative with your options.:idea:

psychology and communications are prereqs for grand canyon and asu. the community colleges have psychology in one of the later blocks so i will just have it out of the way and not have to deal with it. i need to feel i am working towards my goal and not just waiting through a long period, which for me is a semester.:lol2:

yeah, that occured to me after i typed that response. so, are you in fact already on the waiting list for mccd or have you applied yet? it seems you are right there. if you are this close why would you go to ebsn, why not just apply right to asu or grand canyon? am i misunderstanding? i have all the pre-req's minus like, 3, still left to finish so im nowhere near where you are.
