Seeking new grad job in Arizona

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hello Arizonians. I will be graduating in 5 short weeks, and I'm about to start gathering steam for a job search (new RN). I was initially looking to work in Nevada, but I thought I'd widen my options and include Arizona.

I'm looking for a smallish community where housing prices aren't through the roof. I prefer a simple lifestyle, and really look forward to the hot weather as I'm a born and raised Minnesotan.

I honestly don't know where to begin my search. Can anyone provide any kind of recommendations as far as a search or resources to use? I've been surfing the web, but I haven't found the right tools to better my search results.

I'm also on the fence as to whether to use some kind of recruiter or just go it alone.

Thanks for any opinions or suggestions.

I just left Scottsdale, and I have no idea what you are talking about a law about refusing care. Scottsdale is RIGHT NEXT to Phoenix. It is an upscale area. Most of the clientel are higher income. Never worked at the Osborn facility, I worked at Shea (which is north). That hospital had a Spa, and room service, I kid you not. They are busy all the time. Just talked to my friend this morning and they are at full capacity with over flow units open.

Sorry I wasn't more explicit. The law applies to Medicaid patients and the medical community is anticipating some problems with people who cannot provide have or any required documents e.g. alzheimer's patients, homeless. Here's an article: http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2006/04/11/us_rule_demands_proof_of_citizenship_for_healthcare/

Disproportionate care hospitals are those who serve enough low-income patients that they are over a percentage guideline set by Medicaid. These hospitals are given extra reimbursement. Shea's designation fluctuates from year to year, so they do have some Medicaid patients. I was just wondering how this law was going to affect that percentage because if it falls then the hospital can lose that designation and my son will not be able to get partial federal reimbursement for his huge amount of student loans. Disproportionate share hospitals are on the top of the list for reimbursement and the government runs out of money before they ever reach the other qualifying groups.

How did you like Shea by the way?

There are a ton of hospitals in phoenix and you won't have ANY trouble getting a job. As far as small communities though, you are probably better off in Pescott. Phoenix is pretty huge. I don't know how the housing prices compare to Minnesota. Housing used to be pretty reasonable here, but teh last 2 years realestate has gone through the roof here. It's still much cheaper than California though. If you contact any hospital in phoenix HR dept they will give you lots more info (either on line or by phone). Here is a list of places: Scottsdale Healthcare (Shea or Osborne), John C lincoln (North Mountain or Deer Valley), The Banner system has several hospitals out here (Good Sam, Thunderbird Good Sam, Desert Sam, & more), Sun Health (Boswell memorial or Del Webb Memorial), Arrowhead hospital, Paradise Valley hospital, adn many many more. I would definitly stay away from dangerous areas like Phoenix Memorial, Maricopa County, or Maryvale, untill you get familiar with the area( not that the hospital is bad but the area). Also east valley ahs lots of hospitals not familiar with (Gilbert Tempe, Chandler I here these are nice areas.

Hi, there

I see you know some areas pretty well. Can you please help me out???.

I'm searching for psychiatric hospitals (not Phoenix area), or any hospitals that hire LPN. I heard Presscot is nice too.

Thanks Val.

You can check out The Meadows (I think they have a website) in Wickenburg. Wickenburg is about 90 miles southwest of Phoenix. The Meadows is an addiction (all types) rehab facility. Another place to try in Wickenburg is Remuda Ranch. This is a facility for eating disorders. Both places are always looking for nurses and both facilities are quite nice.

I did my psych clinical rotation at Remuda Ranch. If psych nursing was an area I wanted to go into, and Wickenburg was a town I wanted to live in, I would definitely love to work at RR.
