SCC Fall 2014

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hi, I'm super excited. I've got accepted to Maricopa CC nursing program @ SCC for fall 2014. I'm just curious what the first block is like. Is there anyone who has gone through SCC program? What can I do now to prepare myself? What are the clinicials like? What hospital does SCC do their clinicials? I work at two jobs now and I plan on working part time once I start the program.

Thanks for the input on this program at SCC. Application is in, and I am waiting to get the timestamp, so I am at the point where I need to select the 5 schools to attend.

Since, there is a long wait list to get into the program I would list all 5 schools you can always change them. I would than start working on your classes for the CEP nursing program. Its a good idea since your waiting anyway. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the Maricopa schools. Have you seen this website.

Well that makes it a bit better, I did not think about being able to change them while I wait. The plan is to chug away on classes until I get accepted to a program. Been doing that the past two semesters to make the program easier to manage with less course work to do.

Have you looked into the CEP program it might get you in the program faster. Its worth looking into thats what I did. Good luck in your classes

mrsboots & Kendell,

Thanks so much for your input!!! :)

I too just got accepted into the program at SCC.

Do they have HESI exams each block?

And I'm curious...is there a lot of public speaking/presentations invovled? or more group projects?

Thanks again for the help and good luck to you all too!

I too start at SCC this Fall. It is the most peculiar mixture of excitement and nervousness I've ever felt...

There are HESI exit exams each block, but they aren't a requirement for passing the block. You still want to do well because the test counts toward your proctored points that you need to get 76% total in, but the test in and of itself does not have a passing standard for moving forward. Get the HESI fundamental success book. I didn't get it and wish I did. My classmates who got it said that it really prepares you for the exams and the exit exam. As for presentations, there is only one at the end of the semester. The only real assignments for block 1 beside the careplans, are a pretty short evidence based practice (EBP) research paper using a PICO statement, and one group presentation. The rest is just math quizzes, checkoffs and, exams.

Thanks so much mrsboots! You are always so helpful and informative!

Is the HESI Fundamental Success the same book that Kendall posted a link to (HESI comprehensive Review)?

Thanks again for the heads up about presentations! :)

No, I believe it is has a blue cover. The HESI NCLEX book should be good too though because the questions will be written very similar to the types you will see on the exit exam while also helping prepare for NCLEX.

And thanks, I know before I started and had questions, it wasn't common for someone to come back and answer. So when searching I couldn't always find what I was looking for. Since I'm in summer, I figured I could come here and help the new students or waiting students with questions they have.

GL in fall. I love this school and the block 1 instructors are fantastic. It should be the same four that I had, and they are all very knowledgeable and friendly. Professor Miller is a hoot!

Can you post a link to the HESI book you recommend? I would appreciate it very much! :)

Anyone going into block 3 or know someone who is???
