Whats your guys opinion on the best town to live in? I like Prescott because of the old town feel but is it safer? I like Prescott Valley because of all the new stores. Then I like the other sournding areas like Dewey because its a little more rural. I know the further away you get from Prescott and Prescott Valley the cheaper it is. I was just wondering which town you guys like the best and why? And in each town how long of a drive is it to the hospital? Whats the traffic like?

If I had to guess, I would say Prescott is safer. There is very little violent crime anywhere around here, but there tends to be more property crime in Prescott Valley. Because the housing is a bit cheaper in PV, it attracts more lower income people, and more lower income housing tends to attract more crime. However, there are definitely good areas and less good areas of PV - the west and north ends of town tend to be better than the east and south (closer to Highway 69).

Yes, Dewey is more rural, and then there's also Prescott Country Club (which is between Prescott Valley and Dewey) and the new Quailwood development (also between PV and Dewey).

I plan on staying in PV because the department in which I work will eventually be totally moving to the new hospital in PV (probably not for another 3-5 years, though). I plan to buy a house in Granville (a large newer development in west PV) where I used to live (ex-husband got the house). There are some really nice developments in PV (Stoneridge, Granville, Viewpoint, Pronghorn Ranch).

From where I currently live (east side of PV, just off 69 - yes, the aforementioned "bad part of town"), it takes me about 25 minutes to get to the hospital in Prescott, in normal traffic. Traffic is definitely getting worse, because the current highway system cannot easily accommodate the new growth. There are two main highways between PV and Prescott - Highway 69 and 89A. 89A runs east/west on the north end of town, and 69 runs east/west on the south end. Because of the poor design of 69, there are quite frequently accidents, which can shut things down for hours (it's been dubbed "death alley" because the accidents are more often than not fatal). 89A is a nice stretch of highway and is convenient to take to the hospital if you already live on the north end of PV.

I used to live in Prescott, but moved a few months ago to Wilhoit which is just a few miles away, but takes about 1/2 an hour due to curvy mountain roads. Prescott is a great town to live in. The culture, scenery and activities give it a fun, yet wholesome feel. I would recommend just about anywhere in the area.

Just know that if you move to Chino Valley, you will be dealing with horrendous traffic on your way to work. There's only one road. They say it's currently used by 30,000 people...and the projection is 60,000.
