Prescott nurses

Thinking of moving to Prescott after I graduate and I'd like to know what the job market is like there for nurses. I believe there is only one hospital? Any complaints or complitments? What is the community like?

I don't know about the job market per say but the community is great. I am also considering a move there. I have had family in Prescott forever and they just love it! Good luck!

Thank you for the reply. I spent my honeymoon in Prescott five years ago and pretty much fell in love with it. I have kids now and thought it would be a nice place to raise them. I'm pretty tired of the big city now and just need a way of life thats a little slower you know. I grew up in a rural town and then later moved to the city. So, I know what to expect from a rural town and I am ready for that again in my life. I just hope the hospital and nurses jobs are just as nice.

I'm in nursing school at Yavapai College in Prescott, and with the way it's growing up here, you can expect a huge need for nurses. There are 2 new hospitals being built, a new rehab center, and there is talk of a possible cardiac center....

Wow cool porcelina, do you know if these two new hospitals that are going up have a website yet would you? I can't wait to live there! Thank you for the info!

My buddy and his wife moved to Prescott so she (an RN) could work at the hospital. She loves it.

No, I don't think the hospitals have websites up yet. I know that the first one is supposed to open in the next year, but I don't even think ground has been broken on the others yet. You can check the YRMC website though- just search Yavapai Regional Medical Center on Google and it should direct you to their site.

Hi, also in Prescott (I graduate in May - do I know you, Porcelina?). There really is a HUGE demand right now. Yavapai Regional Medical Center is opening up a second branch, their "East Campus" in Prescott Valley this summer. There is also a rehab hospital being built right now (I think it's ortho rehab?) that's also scheduled to open this summer (although, considering what the construction looks like, I have my doubts that it will open that soon, but hey, ya never know). There's also the VA hospital right here, as well. And then, considering the demographics in this area, there is a ton of demand in extended care and home health. The Prescott area is growing VERY VERY quickly (especially Prescott Valley), and now is a GREAT time to get on board as an RN. I moved here from MN three years ago and I'm convinced the weather here is nearly perfect (I say "nearly" only because as I type this, we have about 4 inches of snow on the ground and it's continuing to come down).

Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions about the area, living conditions, and the hospitals.

Hi, also in Prescott (I graduate in May - do I know you, Porcelina?).

Probably not...I'm in second semester, so I graduate in May of next year. I've only occasionally seen 3rd and 4th semester students if I happen to run to the skills lab to practice...so I may have seen you once or twice :-) Your classes are pretty much on opposite days as mine too...I think it's so you guys can't scare us with the horror stories we have yet to experience!

Oh, and here in Prescott at the base of Thumb Butte we have 6 inches, and are supposed to have a foot by 8pm...it hasn't stopped snowing since last night :-)

...chrissy...

Klone why are you watching the snow......get back to studying.

You'll love it here and even the snow is great, if only I wasn't at work at YRMC and could go play.

LOLOL :roll

Does anybody know what the schools are like in Prescott? The housing market? Is it higher than Phoenix (is that possible anymore?)?

TIA,

Keli

Do you mean the elementary schools? I'm not a huge expert - my kids go to a local community school in the Humboldt USD (serving Prescott Valley, Dewey and Humboldt). I like it well enough - the teachers seem good. I never did a lot of research on school performance statistics and things like that. I'm a proponent of community schools, and supplementing at home in anything you feel might be lacking. Sorry I can't give you a very educated answer.

Housing market is not as high as Phoenix, but definitely not far behind. You can buy a 3-bedroom home for $150,000-200,000 (I'm sure you can find some for less, but they're going to be older and in need of more work). Prescott Valley is generally less expensive than Prescott. We're currently experiencing a huge growth and housing boom, and housing prices have really skyrocketed. However, it's believed that the bubble is going to burst in the next year or two, turning it into more of a buyer's market (yay, that's just when I'll be in a position to buy!).
