Pima CC Seat Shuffle

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Option A: I want to remain in the Nursing program in the semester I was originally selected for (Fall 2011).

Option B: I want to move to the Spring 2011 semester, if a seat is available.

Guess which I picked! :) :) :)

Congrats to those of you that got your start date. I'm also finishing up 4th semester (3 weeks of lecture left to go) and I have to say, it went faster than I thought it would. You'll be getting info about "Boot Camp" from SNAP (Student Nurses' Association at Pima) at orientation. I really recommend attending it. You'll get some helpful tips that may set your mind at ease before starting the program. I've helped with 3 of them and this next one will be my last. If you have any burning questions, post them here and someone will answer them. Don't get your shots and CPR done too soon, because then you'll have to do them again before you finish the program. And be sure you'll pass the drug test on orientation day. :)

Thanks for that!

Alright! I'm officially part of the PCC Nursing group. I'm reading the 62 page Student Handbook now. :)

Hello all,

Quick question,

What's included in the Pima Nursing tote? I remember at the orientation they said do not buy used ones and don't open the new ones. So I can't open it and see if the following things are there :) Are bandage scissors, pen light, and hemostat included in the tote? If not where can I buy those things? Can someone please help with this question?

Thank you in advance.:)

Email Kristen. That's a good question. I'm checking mypima twice a day to see if they posted anything new. Personally, I would buy those things separately. They are pretty inexpensive. I found this on a quick google search: Tucson Safety and Medical Supply

Thanks Staragate, I think I know this place. I'll just stop by the next time I go grocery shopping. :) I emailed Kristen about our text book list and syllabus. ( I saw only the student hand book on Mypima). Did you have any luck finding the book list?

Thanks again.

I just looked at the book list for the current class. I don't imagine ours is any different. The only book/set that I didn't find the ISBNs in the bookstore from is the Potter set. Those were out of stock. I price compared the ISBNs from the other books and I actually couldn't do any better from Amazon or anybody else when I looked. Prices are pretty even with everybody else.

That Potter set is going to be a killer. So EXPENSIVE!!!

Well I too am now a lucky one as I have been moved up the list. I start the program Fall 2011, that is one year early.

I got my orientation date of 4-1-2011 and I am so excited. Just two questions though to anyone in the program.... do you actually get your class schedule during orientation? and are they flexible at all on changing your class times? Thanks to any responders.

You get your schedule about a month before class starts. That's how it worked for me anyway. They are not flexible at all about class times. You get what you get. The staff are amazing and do their best to help you understand everything. Here's a tip: get the Elsevier package when you have the book list. It includes all the online codes that you would have to pay extra for separately. It's expensive though.

Is it possible to get all or most of your books digitally, like on an e-reader or nook instead of lugging around heavy books everywhere?

I am also attending the nursing program in the Fall of 2011

The orientation explained

A. The immunization you must have

B. The uniforms

C. The group assignments that you will receive...(No you will not know your assigned classes yet).

D. Your CPR card

E. Drug Test (You will take it that day)

F. Basic rules and regulations

G. Book, Class and etc. Fees

H. Responsibilities

I. You will take an entrance exam on orientation day. It covers Reading, Math, A&P and 2 other sections (those are not graded) You will need decent scores on these, as these sections offer information to employers.

J. S.N.A.P....Student nurses Association recruiters will talk to the class (I hear it's a good idea to get involved, as employers look at this involvement as a positive thing when hiring.

I'm sure there is more that I am forgetting...But good luck...Perhaps we will have a class together... :)

Thanks for the info. I have been brushing up on those subjects for the entrance exam but I didn't think it really counted for anything....especially since they don't even tell you that a test will be administered. Now I am worried!
